About this club
Albury Wodonga Mountain Bikers (AWMTB) is a volunteer-powered mountain bike club bringing together riders from Albury, Wodonga and the surrounding NSW–Victoria border region through social riding, racing, events and trail stewardship. Formed in 2005, the club has grown alongside the region's mountain bike community and plays an important role in supporting both the riders who use the local trails and the networks themselves. Cross-country and gravity riding are at the heart of the club. AWMTB hosts XC and gravity racing, providing opportunities for riders to experience everything from endurance and traditional cross-country competition through to faster, more technical gravity riding. The club is closely connected with Nail Can Hill in Albury, one of the region's best-known mountain bike areas. Its mix of climbing, flowing singletrack and technical terrain provides a natural home for club riding and racing, including the club's long-running Nail Can Hill event. Across the border, Hunchback Hill in Wodonga provides another important local trail connection, while the wider Albury Wodonga region places riders within easy reach of mountain bike destinations including Beechworth, Yackandandah, Mount Beauty and Bright. Racing is only one part of AWMTB. Social riding is an important part of club life, giving recreational mountain bikers opportunities to meet other riders, discover local trails and become involved in the community without needing to race. The club also actively encourages women's participation in mountain biking, welcoming everyone from social riders through to experienced racers and helping connect women with other riders of similar abilities and interests. Developing riders and younger mountain bikers have also been an important part of the club community, with opportunities to build skills, experience MTB competition and progress through the sport. Club equipment can help make trying mountain biking more accessible for riders who are not yet ready to invest in their own specialist equipment. Beyond riding and racing, trail stewardship is a major part of AWMTB's contribution to the region. Club volunteers have worked alongside local councils, land managers and community organisations to help design, build, maintain and improve mountain bike trails, while encouraging sustainable trail use and responsible riding. This combination of riding, racing, volunteering and advocacy makes AWMTB an important connection between mountain bikers and the places they ride. Whether you're looking to find people to ride with, explore cross-country trails, get involved in gravity racing, meet other women who ride, volunteer on the trails or simply become part of the local MTB community, Albury Wodonga Mountain Bikers provides a welcoming home for mountain biking on the border.
