Central Australian Rough Riders (CARR) – Alice Springs MTB Club is the heart of the mountain biking community in Alice Springs and Central Australia, bringing riders together for social riding, racing, junior development and trail advocacy amongst some of Australia's most distinctive desert singletrack. Alice Springs is something of a mountain biking playground, with an extensive network of hand-built singletrack accessible directly from town. Riders can explore flowing and technical trails through the rocky Central Australian landscape, with major riding areas stretching across the Eastside around Alice Springs Telegraph Station and west towards Simpsons Gap and the West MacDonnell Ranges. CARR was formed in 2009 to provide mountain biking in Central Australia with a strong organisational and advocacy voice, building on the work of an earlier Alice Springs Mountain Bike Club that helped establish many of the area's trails during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Today the club continues to work with government, land managers and the wider community to support trail development and protect riding opportunities around Alice Springs. There's plenty happening beyond the trails themselves. CARR runs social rides, skills opportunities and mountain bike events, giving riders plenty of ways to connect with the local community. The club also supports SheShreds Alice Springs, a social MTB group creating a supportive riding environment for women and gender-diverse riders, with no-drop rides designed around confidence, connection and enjoying the trails together. Junior development is another major part of the club. Programs including Dusty Demons introduce young riders to mountain biking through skills and fun, while school-based programs help children learn bike handling, basic maintenance and how to ride safely on singletrack. Developing juniors also have opportunities to progress towards competitive mountain biking. For riders who love racing, CARR is behind the iconic Easter in the Alice Mountain Bike Muster, a multi-stage event that uses Alice Springs' extensive trail network to showcase some of the best riding in the Red Centre. The club also runs other competitive events throughout the year, catering for riders across different abilities and experience levels.
