Ballina Bicycle Club

Ballina Bicycle Club (BBC) is a road cycling club based in Ballina on the Northern Rivers coast of New South Wales, bringing together local riders with a shared love of road riding, racing and the social side of cycling. The Northern Rivers provides a fantastic setting for road cycling, with routes extending from the coast around Ballina into the rolling countryside surrounding Tintenbar, Newrybar, Alstonville and the wider hinterland. The combination of coastal roads, rural lanes and plenty of climbing further inland gives local riders a diverse playground for everything from relaxed bunch rides to challenging training kilometres. Ballina Bicycle Club has a history of both competitive and recreational road cycling. Club riders have competed in regional events throughout northern NSW and south-east Queensland, while the club has previously worked alongside neighbouring organisations including Byron Bay Cycle Club to create regional racing opportunities. The Shire Shootout series, for example, combined criteriums, road races, handicaps and individual time trials across multiple rounds. BBC riders continue to appear in road competition beyond Ballina, representing the club at events throughout the broader NSW and Queensland racing scene. The club remains recognised as an affiliated AusCycling member club, providing a connection for local riders wanting to participate in organised cycling and competition. There's a social and heritage side to the Ballina cycling community as well. A Vintage Steel riding group associated with Ballina Bicycle Club has brought together riders on classic and older bikes for social rides around the region. Despite the name, the group hasn't been limited strictly to steel bikes, with older aluminium and early carbon bikes also welcomed.
