About this club
Bathurst Cycling Club (BCC) is one of Australia's oldest cycling clubs, with a history stretching back to 1884 and more than 140 years of riding and racing in Bathurst and the Central West of New South Wales. Today the club combines that remarkable heritage with an active program of road racing, track cycling, junior development, training and social events, catering for riders from grassroots through to elite competition. The club's home is the Bathurst Velodrome and Bicycle Park at 624 Vale Road, which became its new base in 2015. Track cycling is a major part of club life, with the season traditionally running from September through April and a combination of coached training, graded racing, junior events, club championships and special races. Friday-night racing caters separately for developing juniors and older riders, while structured training is available throughout the week. Road racing runs throughout the year, using a variety of courses around Bathurst and the surrounding countryside. Graded events cater for both junior and senior riders and include different race formats, from handicaps and individual time trials to traditional road races. The club also maintains a strong collection of historic trophy races, including the Rockley Cup, ANZAC Commemoration, Pebble Cup, Weal Trophy and the Toireasa Gallagher Women's Handicap. Junior development is one of Bathurst Cycling Club's real strengths. The club runs cycling skills programs, weekly coached training and dedicated junior racing across both road and track. Accredited coaches work with entry-level riders through to developing competitors, with the emphasis on safe riding, building confidence and making cycling enjoyable. The club's philosophy is that junior skills should transfer across disciplines, giving young riders a foundation they can take into road, track, mountain biking and beyond. That development pathway sits behind an impressive competitive history. Across generations, Bathurst riders have progressed from local club racing to State and Australian Championships, professional cycling and international competition including World Championships, the Olympics and Paralympics. Despite that high-performance pedigree, the club continues to place grassroots racing and its supportive social atmosphere at the centre of what it does. Bathurst also has a remarkable place in Australian cycling history. The original Bathurst Bicycle Club was established in 1884, with racing soon becoming an important part of the city's sporting life. Regional, state and national-level cycling was held at the Bathurst Sportsground for around 130 years before the club transitioned to its current Bathurst Bicycle Park facility. The club remains strongly volunteer driven, with members helping deliver racing, coaching, officiating and the practical work required to keep a busy year-round cycling program running. Whether you're looking to introduce a junior to cycling, experience track racing, join graded road competition, develop your skills or become part of more than 140 years of Bathurst cycling history, Bathurst Cycling Club offers a fantastic connection to the cycling community of the NSW Central West.
