About this club
Bayside BMX Club is a welcoming, family-focused BMX racing club based at Kianawah Park in Wynnum West, on Brisbane's eastern bayside. Run by volunteers, the club has a strong grassroots focus and prides itself on creating a safe and supportive environment where riders can build their skills, confidence and love of BMX. The club's current BMX track at Kianawah Park was established in the 1980s and has been designed to work for a broad range of riders. Beginners can progressively learn the fundamentals of BMX racing, while the track still provides enough challenge for experienced racers developing their speed, jumping and race craft. Bayside caters for riders from around two years of age upwards, making it a great place for families to discover BMX together. Young children can begin in Mini Wheelers before progressing onto pedals, Sprockets and age-group racing, while adults can race within their own categories too. BMX is one of the relatively few sports where children, parents and even grandparents can all participate at the same club event. There's a particularly strong emphasis on coaching and rider development. Regular club gate sessions divide riders into appropriate groups, from Mini Wheelers and children new to pedals through to Sprockets, beginners and more experienced racers. Qualified volunteer coaches help riders develop the core skills needed for BMX, while additional group and private coaching provides opportunities for those wanting to take their riding further. Riders from other BMX clubs are also welcome at the club's gate sessions. Regular club racing gives developing riders an opportunity to put those skills into practice in a friendly environment before progressing into larger interclub, state and national events. Bayside's current calendar combines club racing, gate sessions and coaching with opportunities for members to compete throughout Queensland and further afield. That development pathway is producing some impressive results. In the 2026 AusCycling BMX Racing National Series, Bayside's Jed Lillicrap won the Junior Superclass Men overall title and Hannah Leishman won the 8 Girls series, while Cameron Jones and Letitia Weatherhead took overall Cruiser titles in their respective categories. Bayside riders also collected Australian championship results at the 2026 Oceania BMX Racing Championships. Behind the racing is a strong volunteer community and the family atmosphere the club actively promotes. Parents, riders, coaches, officials and committee members all contribute to keeping the club running and creating an environment where newcomers can feel part of the BMX community from the beginning. Whether you're looking to get a young rider started in BMX, learn the basics of racing, improve your skills, join regular club racing or chase state and national-level competition, Bayside BMX Club provides a fantastic pathway into BMX racing on Brisbane's bayside.
