About this club
Blackburn Cycling Club (BCC) is a long-established cycling club based at East Burwood Reserve in Burwood East, Victoria, bringing together juniors, adults, recreational riders and experienced racers across track, road, criterium and cyclocross cycling. Established in 1946, Blackburn has more than 80 years of cycling history behind it. The club was founded by George Robinson of Rob's Cycles in Blackburn and has gone on to produce an impressive list of State, National, World Championship, Commonwealth Games, Olympic and Paralympic representatives. The club's traditional home is the East Burwood Reserve Velodrome, where generations of riders have learned to ride and race on the track. Blackburn also makes extensive use of the Darebin International Sports Centre (DISC) indoor velodrome, allowing riders to access high-quality track training and racing throughout the year. Junior development is one of Blackburn's biggest strengths. Its JETS – Junior and Elite Training System – provides a structured pathway that recognises riders develop at different speeds and have different ambitions. Training ranges from beginner and development sessions through to intermediate and performance groups, allowing young riders to progressively build their bike handling, fitness, race craft and confidence. That pathway isn't limited to juniors simply wanting to become elite athletes. The club places a strong emphasis on keeping riders engaged in cycling regardless of their ultimate goals, while those wanting to pursue competition can progress into State, National and international-level racing. Blackburn runs an extensive track racing and training program, including sprint and endurance training, club championships and track carnivals. The club also organises the Australia Day Track Carnival at DISC and works alongside other Melbourne clubs to create additional interclub racing opportunities. Away from the velodrome, Blackburn is heavily involved in road and criterium racing. The club runs graded criteriums and major junior road events, including its annual Junior Tour. In 2026, Blackburn hosted Round 4 of the Victorian Junior Road Series as a three-day stage race around Eildon, alongside a round of the Victorian Time Trial Series. Cyclocross is another genuine part of the club's program, with Blackburn hosting Victorian CX competition catering for graded men and women, younger riders and open-bike categories. Regular social road rides add another option for members who enjoy riding with the club without necessarily wanting to race. Behind all of this is a strong volunteer community of coaches, officials, parents and members supporting racing, training and rider development. Whether you're looking to introduce a child to cycling, learn to ride the track, develop towards higher-level competition, race criteriums or cyclocross, or simply connect with a long-standing Melbourne cycling community, Blackburn Cycling Club offers an impressive pathway from first-time rider through to elite competition.
