Blue Lake BMX Club Inc

Blue Lake BMX Club Inc. is a family-focused BMX racing club based at Hastings Cunningham Reserve in Mount Gambier, South Australia, providing opportunities for riders of different ages and abilities to discover BMX, develop their skills and enjoy competitive racing. Located close to the Victorian border, Blue Lake occupies a unique position within the BMX community, regularly bringing together riders from both South Australia and Victoria. The club is affiliated with AusCycling and caters for the full progression of BMX racing, from young Mini Wheelers and Sprockets through Challenge age groups, Cruiser, Junior Superclass, Superclass and Masters categories. For riders getting started, the club provides a welcoming environment in which to learn the fundamentals of BMX racing before progressing into competition. Regular training, gate sessions and club racing allow riders to develop their bike handling, jumping, starting technique, confidence and race craft, while more experienced competitors can use the same environment to prepare for higher-level events. Blue Lake has a particularly strong history as an event host. The club hosted the 2012 Australian BMX National Championships, an event BMX Australia's annual report described as one of its most successful National Championships at the time. The club has continued to host significant state-level competition, including combined South Australian and Victorian State Series racing, attracting competitors from across both states. That tradition continues today. In October 2026, Blue Lake hosts consecutive rounds of the South Australian BMX Racing State Series, with competition covering Mini Wheelers through to Superclass and Masters riders. Hosting events of this level gives local riders the opportunity to race strong competition on their home track while bringing visiting BMX families into Mount Gambier. The club also provides a pathway for riders wanting to take BMX further. Blue Lake riders have previously been selected for AusCycling development programs, demonstrating the progression available from grassroots club riding into higher-level training and competition. Behind the racing is a strong volunteer community. Families and club members contribute to everything from track maintenance and gate operation to officiating, events and the canteen, helping provide a safe, fun and competitive place for riders to enjoy BMX.
