About this club
Brunswick Cycling Club (BCC) is one of Melbourne's longest-running and most active cycling clubs, based at the historic Brunswick Velodrome in Roberts Reserve, Brunswick East. Founded in 1916, the club has grown into a diverse cycling community catering for riders across track, road, gravel and cyclocross, from children discovering the sport through to experienced racers and world-class athletes. Originally established as the Northern Suburbs Amateur Cycling Club, the organisation later became Brunswick Amateur Cycling Club before evolving into Brunswick Cycling Club. The club moved to its current Harrison Street home in 1956, when the original Brunswick Velodrome was completed in time for the Melbourne Olympic year. More than a century after the club began, the velodrome remains at the heart of its riding, racing and community. Track cycling is a major part of Brunswick's identity. Regular racing includes the club's popular Tuesday Night Racing, with riders graded by ability rather than age and a changing program of sprint, endurance and other track formats. Training opportunities include motorpace sessions, while the club also uses the indoor Darebin International Sports Centre for track activities. One of the club's standout achievements is its Junior Clinic, which has been introducing children to track cycling since 1948. Designed for riders aged approximately 4–15, the program teaches bike handling and track racing skills in a fun and supportive environment, with no previous racing experience required. The club has more than 100 loan bikes available free of charge, removing one of the biggest barriers for families wanting to give track cycling a try. There are accessible pathways for adults too. Brunswick's On Track – Come & Try sessions introduce newcomers to riding a velodrome under the guidance of accredited AusCycling Track Instructors, with club track bikes available to borrow. Dedicated sessions for women and gender-diverse riders further support the club's focus on making cycling welcoming and accessible. Away from the track, Brunswick has an extensive road, gravel and cyclocross program. Regular social road rides provide opportunities to simply ride with the club, while gravel racing includes the quirky Apple Crumble Gravel Crits at Petty's Orchard. The club is also behind Dirty Deeds Cyclocross, which in 2026 hosted the opening round of the Victorian Cyclo-cross State Series. That broad program means riders don't necessarily have to choose one style of cycling. Members can race track through summer, move into road, gravel and cyclocross as the seasons change, join social rides or simply focus on the disciplines they enjoy most. Brunswick also has a proud competitive pathway, with club riders regularly progressing into Victorian and Australian Championship competition. In 2026, six Brunswick juniors were selected to represent Victoria at the AusCycling Junior Track National Championships, while club riders also collected multiple Victorian and Australian Masters track titles. Behind the results is a strong volunteer-driven community focused on participation, inclusion, rider development and creating opportunities for people to enjoy bikes. Whether you're looking to get a child started in cycling, try a track bike for the first time, join a social road ride, race gravel or cyclocross, or pursue higher-level competition, Brunswick Cycling Club offers an incredibly broad pathway into Melbourne's cycling community.
