About this club
Bundaberg Cycling Club is a volunteer-run road and track cycling club based in Bundaberg, Queensland, welcoming riders from young juniors through to Masters. With structured training, track racing, road racing and criteriums, the club provides opportunities for newcomers learning the sport as well as riders pursuing competitive cycling at state and national level. The club's home is the Kevin Brogden Memorial Velodrome in Bundaberg West, where track cycling takes centre stage through spring and summer. Regular training, open-track sessions and racing give riders opportunities to develop their skills, speed and race craft in a dedicated cycling environment. During the cooler months the velodrome continues to be used for junior training, open sessions and endurance training while much of the club's racing moves onto the road. Junior development is a particularly strong part of Bundaberg Cycling Club. Children can get involved from around five years of age, with junior training helping young riders progressively learn how to ride and race on the velodrome. The club also has track bikes available for hire, making it easier for newcomers to experience track cycling without immediately needing to purchase specialist equipment. As the seasons change, the club shifts its focus to road and criterium racing at locations throughout the Bundaberg region. This seasonal mix gives members the opportunity to experience multiple forms of competitive cycling rather than being tied to one discipline or venue. Bundaberg has also developed a reputation as a capable host of major cycling events. The club organised the Queensland State Road Championships in both 2024 and 2025, with racing incorporating individual time trials, road races and criteriums across junior, Elite, Masters and Para categories. Another highlight of the club's calendar is the Bundaberg Cycling Spectacular, a major track carnival that attracts competitors from outside the region and has previously drawn riders from across Australia and overseas. Racing caters from juniors through to Masters, bringing high-quality track competition to the Bundaberg velodrome. The club's development pathway is also producing the next generation of competitive riders. In 2026, Bundaberg riders Matilda Kemps and Cruz Kemps were selected for the Queensland Junior Road Nationals team, competing in the U15 Girls and U17 Boys categories respectively. Behind the racing is a community run entirely by volunteers, supporting training, events and opportunities for riders across a remarkably broad age range – from young children through to Masters riders in their 70s and beyond. Whether you're looking to introduce a junior to cycling, try riding a velodrome, get involved in road or criterium racing, or develop towards state and national competition, Bundaberg Cycling Club provides a great pathway into competitive cycling in the Wide Bay region.
