Castlemaine Rocky Riders

Castlemaine Rocky Riders Mountain Bike Club is a not-for-profit MTB club based in Castlemaine in Central Victoria, surrounded by an impressive mix of old-school singletrack, rocky terrain, forest trails and purpose-built mountain biking. The club brings together riders who enjoy everything from relaxed social rides through to racing, skills development and exploring the huge variety of trails found around the Victorian Goldfields. The Rocky Riders run regular club and women’s social rides, giving riders the chance to explore local trails with people who know them best. Rides venture into areas including Pineys, Walmer State Forest, Muckleford and La Larr Ba Gauwa Mountain Bike Park at Harcourt, with options across different distances, fitness levels and technical difficulty. Castlemaine also sits along the Goldfields Track, opening up even more riding between Bendigo, Castlemaine and Ballarat. Racing is another important part of the club, but with a strong emphasis on keeping things welcoming and fun. The popular Summer Dirt Crits provide handicap-format racing for juniors and adults, while the club is also involved in interclub racing and major events. Junior development is particularly well supported, with Dirt Cubs and Dirt Masters racing, skills opportunities and events such as the Victorian Schools MTB Series helping introduce younger riders to the sport. Beyond riding and racing, the Rocky Riders are active advocates for trail development, access and maintenance across Central Victoria. The club has established a maintenance and clean-up group to coordinate working bees around the Castlemaine region and works to support the trails that make the area such a great mountain biking destination. With a huge amount of singletrack scattered through the surrounding forests, joining a Rocky Riders social ride is a great way to discover trails you might otherwise ride straight past.
