About this club
Central Districts Cycling Club (CDCC) is a long-established cycling club serving Adelaide's northern suburbs and surrounding regions of South Australia, providing opportunities for junior, recreational and competitive riders across road and track cycling. Established around 1960, the club has spent more than half a century developing riders and supporting cycling throughout the northern Adelaide plains and hills. The club's riding community extends across areas including Salisbury, Elizabeth, Munno Para, Mawson Lakes, Gepps Cross and the Adelaide Hills, with members participating in road racing, track cycling, training and recreational riding. While road and track remain its core competitive disciplines, gravel riding also forms part of the broader riding opportunities associated with the club. Track cycling has a particularly strong place in Centrals' history. The club once operated its own velodrome at Ramsay Park in Elizabeth, while today its track activities are connected with South Australia's major cycling facilities at Gepps Cross, including the State Sports Park precinct. The club continues to produce riders competing in state and national track competition. Junior development has been central to the club for generations. Centrals introduced a dedicated Junior Tour in the 1960s, with racing through Adelaide's northern districts and the Barossa Valley. The modern club continues to support junior racing and development, with young Central Districts riders regularly progressing into South Australian and national representative competition. The club has also delivered AusBike learn-to-ride programs, introducing children aged approximately 5–12 to cycling in a safe and structured environment. These sessions focus on confidence, bike handling and safe riding, with bikes and helmets available for children who don't have their own equipment. Centrals has an exceptional record of developing riders who have progressed to the very highest levels of the sport. Matthew Glaetzer, a multiple Olympian and World Champion track sprinter, lists Central Districts Cycling Club as both his junior and senior club. Alexandra Manly, a two-time Olympian and multiple World Champion on the track, also began her cycling career with Centrals. The club's elite connections don't stop there. Chloe Moran, Commonwealth Games team pursuit gold medallist and multiple Australian track champion, is another Central Districts rider, while Alex Edmondson, World Champion, Commonwealth Games champion and Tour de France rider, has also represented the club. Despite that extraordinary high-performance pedigree, Centrals isn't only for aspiring champions. The club describes itself as suitable for both competitive and recreational riders, and encourages people with an interest in cycling to become part of the community even if they aren't currently racing. Members can also contribute through officiating, marshalling, event organisation and other volunteer roles. Whether you're looking to introduce a child to cycling, try road racing, discover track cycling, develop your skills or work towards state, national and international competition, Central Districts Cycling Club provides a well-established pathway into the cycling community of northern Adelaide.
