About this club

Coburg Cycling Club (CCC) is one of Australia's oldest cycling clubs, bringing together riders across road, criterium and track cycling in Melbourne's northern suburbs. Established in 1896 and celebrating 130 years in 2026, the club welcomes everyone from juniors and recreational cyclists through to experienced racers, with a strong emphasis on friendly competition, development and the social side of cycling. The heart of the club is Coburg Velodrome at Richards Reserve in Coburg North, where CCC owns its own clubrooms and 250-metre outdoor velodrome. The track is regarded by the club as one of Victoria's premier outdoor cycling facilities and provides a home for track training, junior development and other club activities. Track cycling has a long history at Coburg, and the club continues to introduce riders to the discipline through regular summer training. Junior sessions provide an opportunity for younger riders to build skills and confidence, followed by senior training, while specialised sessions are also held at the indoor Darebin International Sports Centre (DISC). Importantly for riders wanting to give track a try, the club has track bikes available to borrow rather than requiring newcomers to immediately purchase specialist equipment. Away from the velodrome, Coburg runs a popular summer criterium series at National Boulevard in Campbellfield. Racing caters for juniors and multiple senior grades, giving newer racers somewhere to learn while still providing fast, competitive racing for experienced riders. Coburg's Saturday criteriums also form part of Melbourne's broader summer racing scene and remain active in the 2025–26 season. Junior development is an important part of the club. Young riders have access to weekly training, junior-focused road racing through the Northern Combine, dedicated junior criterium racing and opportunities to train at both Coburg Velodrome and DISC. The club also has suitable bikes available to borrow for juniors aged around 10 and above, helping reduce the cost of trying the sport. Coburg isn't only about racing. The club runs regular recreational road rides from its Coburg clubrooms, with distances and difficulty adjusted to suit the riders attending. Options cater from beginners through to experienced cyclists, with the traditional coffee stop providing an important part of the social side of club life. Recreational memberships are also available for riders who want to participate in club rides and training without racing. For riders interested in competition, CCC provides pathways across criterium, road and track racing, from grassroots club events through to state, national and international levels. Throughout its long history, Coburg members have competed at the Olympic Games and Tour de France and won numerous Australian and Victorian championships. That history remains a major part of the club's identity. Coburg's origins date to the cycling boom of the late 19th century, with the club formally operating by 1896. Its 130th anniversary celebrations in March 2026 brought together members ranging from nine to 96 years old, reflecting a club that has managed to connect generations of Melbourne cyclists while continuing to introduce new riders to the sport. Whether you're looking to get a junior into cycling, try riding a velodrome, enter your first criterium, find a social road bunch or progress into higher-level competition, Coburg Cycling Club offers one of Melbourne's longest-established and most welcoming connections to road and track cycling.
