About this club
Coffs Harbour Cycle Club is a long-established cycling club based on the Coffs Coast of northern New South Wales, providing opportunities for riders across road and track cycling. Previously known as Coffs Coast Cycling Club, the club has been part of the region's cycling community for decades and caters for riders ranging from juniors and newcomers through to experienced Masters and competitive cyclists. A major home for the club is the Toormina Velodrome, located on Minorie Drive just south of Coffs Harbour. The outdoor velodrome provides the region with a dedicated traffic-free facility for track training and racing and has helped generations of local riders develop their bike handling, speed, fitness and race craft. Track cycling forms an important part of the club's identity, with opportunities for riders to take part in training, race practice and competition. Junior development has traditionally been a strong component of the program, while experienced riders can use the track for more specialised training and preparation for higher-level competition. The club also has a strong road cycling and racing tradition. The varied terrain surrounding Coffs Harbour provides everything from flatter coastal riding to challenging hinterland roads and climbs, giving local cyclists an excellent training ground for road racing, time trials and endurance riding. Coffs riders continue to represent the club beyond the local region. Recent AusCycling results show Coffs Harbour Cycle Club riders competing at national level, including the AusCycling Masters Track National Championships, demonstrating that the pathway extends well beyond grassroots club riding. The club has an interesting connection with the development of mountain biking on the Coffs Coast too. In 2006, when Coffs Harbour Cycle Club changed its name to Coffs Coast Cycling Club, the organisation was actively involved in mountain bike racing and had previously hosted rounds of the NSW State Downhill and Cross-Country Championships. The club was also associated with trail maintenance and racing at Pine Creek Mountain Bike Park during this period. Today, however, I'd position the club primarily around its road and track cycling activities, rather than presenting it as the main mountain bike organisation for the region. The Coffs Coast now has a much broader network of MTB riding areas and cycling groups that can be represented separately across RTS. The wider Coffs Coast also has a particularly diverse cycling community, with road riders, recreational bunches, mountain bikers, BMX riders and touring cyclists all active throughout the region. This makes the club a useful connection point for riders looking to discover the more traditional competitive road and track side of cycling around Coffs Harbour. Whether you're looking to introduce a junior to cycling, experience riding a velodrome, develop your road or track skills, try competitive cycling or progress towards State and National events, Coffs Harbour Cycle Club provides an established pathway into cycling on the Coffs Coast.
