About this club
Darling Downs Cycling Club (DDCC) is a welcoming cycling club based in Toowoomba and the Darling Downs region of Queensland, bringing together junior riders, recreational cyclists and competitive racers across road, criterium and track cycling. The club welcomes riders of all ages and abilities, whether you're looking for a social bunch, developing your skills or chasing results in higher-level competition. A major home for the club is the Peter Watts Criterium Track at Glenvale, a dedicated traffic-free cycling circuit used for club racing, junior development, skills sessions and larger competitive events. Regular criterium racing caters for different grades and age groups, creating an accessible environment for riders to experience racing without having to compete on open roads. The club also runs racing on approved road circuits around the Darling Downs, taking advantage of the region's network of quieter country roads and varied terrain. Time trials form part of the competitive program too, with DDCC hosting rounds of the Queensland Time Trial Series. In May 2026, the club hosted Round 2 of the series at Peter Watts Criterium Track, combining individual time trials with criterium racing for Juniors through Elite and Masters riders. Track cycling is another important part of DDCC. Weekly track training is held at Griffiths Park Velodrome in Toowoomba, with sessions catering for riders of different abilities. This gives members the opportunity to experience several forms of competitive cycling within the one club while developing speed, bike handling, fitness and race craft. Junior development is one of the club's standout programs. DDCC's Junior Development Program caters primarily for riders aged 9–14, focusing on bike handling, balance, manoeuvring, group-riding etiquette and building friendships through cycling. Junior skills sessions and group rides are regularly held at Peter Watts Criterium Track before racing, giving young riders a natural pathway from learning the fundamentals into competition. Importantly, families don't necessarily need to invest in a dedicated race bike immediately. The club has a selection of loan bikes in different children's sizes, allowing young riders to experience the program before committing to the expense of purchasing their own bike. New junior riders are specifically encouraged to come along and get involved. For adults, DDCC offers more than racing. The club runs weekly social rides for riders of different abilities, alongside regular training rides aimed at Elite and Masters competitors. Established local bunch rides explore Toowoomba and its surrounds, with the traditional post-ride coffee very much part of the experience. The club's competitive pathway extends well beyond local racing. Darling Downs riders regularly participate in Queensland road and time-trial competition, while the club itself continues to host events within the broader AusCycling calendar. That combination of grassroots racing, junior development and state-level events gives riders somewhere to start and plenty of room to progress. Whether you're looking to get a child into cycling, find a social bunch, try your first criterium, learn track cycling, tackle a time trial or progress into higher-level road competition, Darling Downs Cycling Club provides a strong connection to the cycling community of Toowoomba and the Darling Downs.
