About this club
Echuca Moama Cycling Club (EMCC) is a family-friendly cycling club serving the twin towns of Echuca, Victoria and Moama, New South Wales, and the surrounding Murray River region. The club brings together recreational riders, juniors and competitive cyclists, with a focus on road racing, criterium and track cycling, alongside the social side of riding. The club's home is at Moama Recreation Reserve, where dedicated cycling facilities include an outdoor velodrome and purpose-built hot-mix criterium circuit, with modern air-conditioned clubrooms located alongside. Having both facilities together gives the club a traffic-free environment for junior development, track training, criterium racing and other cycling activities. During summer, the purpose-built criterium track comes alive with graded criterium racing. Riders are divided according to ability, helping make racing approachable for newer cyclists while still providing fast and competitive racing for experienced riders. The club deliberately promotes a relaxed social atmosphere around its racing too, with post-race food, drinks and time to catch up forming part of club life. When the seasons change, EMCC turns its attention to its Winter Road Race Series. Handicap racing allows riders of very different strengths to compete in the same event, with the club specifically highlighting that its winter program caters from A Grade racers through to beginners. It's a traditional style of country road racing that rewards both individual strength and good race tactics. For riders who have never raced before, the club has also run dedicated beginner and novice racing sessions, teaching practical skills before giving participants an opportunity to join a novice group with on-road support. Combined with graded and handicap formats, this makes Echuca Moama a particularly accessible club for recreational cyclists curious about making the jump into racing. Junior development is another important part of the club. Regular junior track training gives younger cyclists the opportunity to develop bike handling, speed, confidence and race craft in a controlled environment before progressing into competition. EMCC juniors continue to represent the club throughout Victoria and beyond, including the Victorian Junior Road Series and AusCycling development pathways. That pathway can extend a long way. In 2025, George Griffiths of Echuca/Moama Cycling Club was selected for AusCycling's Road Development Academy team to compete at New Zealand's Yunca Junior Tour of Southland, demonstrating the opportunities available for talented young riders progressing from regional club cycling. Club members also compete across a surprisingly broad range of cycling. While road and track are the club's core disciplines, EMCC riders have appeared in national cyclocross competition and AusCycling Esports National Championships, reflecting a cycling community that isn't necessarily confined to one style of riding. The club actively encourages women's participation in cycling and describes its overall goal as creating a family-friendly environment that promotes recreational riding, racing and social engagement. Visitors and new members are welcome, making the club a useful connection whether you're already racing or simply looking to become more involved in the local cycling community. Whether you're looking to get a junior into cycling, learn to ride on a velodrome, try your first bike race, join summer criteriums, tackle traditional handicap road racing or progress into higher-level competition, Echuca Moama Cycling Club provides a welcoming connection to cycling on both sides of the Murray.
