About this club

Geelong Cycling Club (GCC) is one of Victoria's long-established cycling clubs, bringing together riders across road, criterium, track and off-road cycling in Geelong and the surrounding region. With a history dating back to 1911, the club welcomes juniors, seniors and Masters, from riders discovering organised cycling for the first time through to athletes competing at State and National level. Originally established as Geelong West Cycling Club, GCC has been part of the local cycling community for more than a century. In 2017 the club moved to its current home at the purpose-built Geelong Cycling Regional Pavilion on Barwon Heads Road, Belmont, providing a modern base alongside one of the region's key dedicated cycling facilities. The Belmont Criterium Track is central to club activity. The approximately 2.2km closed circuit provides a traffic-free environment for coaching, training and racing, with a smooth sealed surface and no vehicle traffic or intersections. Road and criterium racing takes place throughout the year, both at Belmont and on a variety of courses around Geelong and the surrounding district. Junior development is one of Geelong Cycling Club's real strengths. GCC runs a year-round junior cycling program covering road, criterium and track, providing a structured pathway from learning fundamental skills through to club racing and higher-level competition. Training focuses on bike handling, cornering, braking, gear selection, group-riding etiquette, cadence, fitness and safety. Importantly, juniors don't need to arrive with an expensive road bike or racing experience. The current junior program welcomes beginners aged approximately 7–16, and a mountain bike or geared hybrid is perfectly suitable for getting started. The club also maintains a small fleet of loan road bikes for developing riders who decide they would like to progress further. Racing is optional, so young riders can participate simply to build confidence, fitness and riding skills. For families wanting to try the program before committing, eligible riders can begin using AusCycling's four-week trial membership. Junior sessions are supervised by accredited coaches, providing a controlled introduction to organised cycling and a natural pathway into junior road and criterium competition. Track cycling also forms part of the club's program, with GCC offering track racing and development alongside its road activities. This gives riders the opportunity to experience different cycling disciplines and develop speed, tactics and bike-handling skills as they progress through the club. The club has a proud competitive history, with members and affiliates progressing to become Olympians, Commonwealth Games athletes, State and National champions and professional riders competing internationally. Despite that high-performance pedigree, GCC's stated focus remains on providing a friendly and nurturing environment for riders across all skill levels, from beginners through to serious racers. Geelong Cycling Club is also firmly established within the wider community. The City of Greater Geelong recognises it as an incorporated community/not-for-profit organisation catering for juniors, seniors, women and men, with its home at the Russell Mockridge Pavilion at Belmont. Whether you're looking to get a child confidently riding, learn road-riding skills, try your first criterium, experience track cycling or develop towards State and National competition, Geelong Cycling Club provides one of the region's most established pathways into organised cycling.
