About this club
Gladstone Cycling Club (GCC) is an active road cycling club based in Gladstone, Central Queensland, providing organised racing and opportunities for cyclists from the Gladstone region to get involved in competitive cycling. The club caters for a range of abilities, with graded racing allowing developing riders, experienced racers and Masters cyclists to compete at an appropriate level. Road racing and criterium racing form the core of the club's current program. GCC runs a mixture of criteriums, road races, handicap events, scratch races and time trials, giving members experience across several traditional road-racing formats. The club remains active in 2026, with both criterium and open-road events appearing on its current race calendar. One of the club's principal racing venues is the Aldoga industrial circuit, where GCC holds criterium racing on a flowing closed industrial loop. Current events offer A through D Grades, allowing riders to race against others of similar ability. Experienced U15 riders can also progress into senior grades where appropriate, subject to junior distance and rollout requirements. Away from the criterium circuit, the club heads onto the roads around Mount Larcom, approximately 30 minutes west of Gladstone. GCC's current road program includes racing on the Mt Larcom road circuit, with the June 2026 event using a 40km course made up of two 20km laps and a traditional handicap format. Handicap racing is particularly useful for a regional club because it allows riders of different strengths to compete in the same race. Rather than simply separating everyone by grade, riders or groups start at different times based on ability, creating a tactical chase towards the finish and giving developing riders an opportunity to race alongside stronger competitors. The club also has a history of running scratch races, individual and pairs time trials, Winter Criterium Series and multi-round Club Championship Series. Previous championships have combined criterium, scratch-race and time-trial formats, rewarding riders across several different aspects of road cycling. GCC also works with the wider Central Queensland cycling community rather than operating in isolation. Recent seasons have included combined racing with Rockhampton Cycling Club, giving riders from both centres larger fields and more opportunities to race without having to travel all the way to South East Queensland. The combined 2025 road series attracted riders from Gladstone, Rockhampton and other Central Queensland clubs. Masters cycling is well represented within the club, with Gladstone riders competing beyond the local race scene. GCC members including Mark Higgins and Trent Hall have represented the club at AusCycling Masters & Junior Road National Championships, competing in road race, criterium and individual time-trial events. Like many regional racing clubs, Gladstone relies heavily on its members and volunteers to keep racing happening. Current events require club members to contribute to marshalling duties, with volunteers helping create the safe racing environment necessary to run events on local circuits and roads. Whether you're looking to try your first road race, experience criterium racing, test yourself in a time trial or handicap, or compete as an experienced or Masters cyclist, Gladstone Cycling Club provides a valuable connection to organised road cycling in Central Queensland.
