About this club

Goulburn Cycle Club (GCC) is a long-established and genuinely multi-discipline cycling club based in Goulburn in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, approximately halfway between Sydney and Canberra. The club welcomes riders from beginners through to State, National and International-level competitors, with opportunities across road, track, mountain biking and cyclocross, alongside regular recreational and social riding. Cycling has deep roots in Goulburn. The club traces its recorded history to 1907, when the Goulburn Amateur Bicycle Club held its first recorded meeting, although organised cycling in the city goes back even further to a local branch of the League of Wheelmen established in 1893. By 1907, the famous Goulburn to Sydney road race was already in its sixth year. Goulburn's cycling history also includes one of Australia's most significant track cyclists, Dunc Gray, who won the 1,000m time trial at the 1932 Olympic Games. The club's history reflects a city that has supported both competitive and recreational cycling for well over a century. Road racing remains a major part of GCC. The club uses a number of courses throughout the Southern Tablelands, including Breadalbane, Windellama Road, Middle Arm Road, Range Road and Mountain Ash Road. This variety allows the club to offer racing across different terrain rather than relying on a single circuit. The club also has a strong track cycling program based at the Goulburn Velodrome at Seiffert Oval. The outdoor velodrome is a 400-metre track with grandstand and amenities, used for training and summer track competition. Goulburn continues to attract riders from outside the region for track racing too: the 2026 Goulburn Trackpower field included competitors from Goulburn, Canberra, Bathurst, Illawarra, Wagga Wagga and other NSW and Victorian clubs. Unlike many traditional road clubs, GCC also explicitly includes mountain biking and cyclocross within its competitive disciplines. That makes the club a particularly useful connection for riders who enjoy moving between different styles of cycling rather than specialising exclusively in road or track. There's plenty for riders who aren't interested in racing, too. GCC supports regular recreational bunch rides around Goulburn and the surrounding countryside, generally running on weekends with additional rides appearing during the longer summer evenings. These rides give newer cyclists an opportunity to improve fitness, learn from experienced riders and develop safe group-riding skills while exploring the Southern Tablelands. The club specifically encourages new and prospective riders to join its recreational rides and places a strong emphasis on safe bunch-riding etiquette, with experienced members encouraged to help educate and support people who are still learning how to ride confidently in a group. Junior development is another established part of the club, with membership spanning juniors through to Masters. Goulburn riders have progressed through AusCycling development pathways, including Elsie Apps, who was selected for an AusCycling Road Development Academy and continues to represent Goulburn at a high level. Whether you're looking to join a social bunch, try your first race, ride the velodrome, compete on the road, get into cyclocross or MTB, introduce a junior to cycling or progress towards higher-level competition, Goulburn Cycle Club provides one of the most diverse cycling communities in the Southern Tablelands.
