About this club

Grafton Cycle Club (GCC) is a long-established and welcoming cycling club based in Grafton in the Clarence Valley of Northern New South Wales. Established in 1892, the club has more than a century of cycling history and today brings together competitive racers, mountain bikers, gravel riders, juniors and recreational cyclists from Grafton and the surrounding region. Road racing remains a major part of club life, with GCC using officially sanctioned courses at Pringles Way, Lawrence and Glenugie. These out-and-back courses provide a mixture of flat roads, rolling terrain and harder climbing sections, allowing the club to offer varied racing rather than relying on a single circuit. Its current 2026 road competition includes separate A–D grades for both men and women. When the road season winds down, racing shifts to the Junction Hill Criterium Track, an approximately one-kilometre dedicated circuit used for the club's criterium series. Current events cater for A through D Grade, with junior racing also appearing on the program. The club's 2026 calendar remains active into spring, with Junction Hill criteriums scheduled through September and October. Grafton also has a significant mountain biking community centred around Bom Bom State Forest, approximately five kilometres south of town. MTB has long operated under the club's Bom Bom Mountain Biking/Bom Bom Racing identity, with regular racing and volunteer involvement in building and maintaining the forest trail network. The off-road program is clearly still active. In June 2026 the club ran its Bom Bom 2hr XC and Gravel-X, combining a two-hour cross-country race on Bom Bom's singletrack with a separate Gravel-X category using predominantly fire roads and selected MTB trail sections. It's a great example of the club embracing riders who sit somewhere between traditional MTB and gravel racing. There's plenty for riders who don't want to race, too. GCC promotes regular no-drop social rides, designed to cater for different abilities and finishing with the all-important post-ride coffee. The club also runs a monthly gravel ride, giving riders another way to explore the quieter roads and backcountry surrounding Grafton and the Clarence Valley. Junior development is actively encouraged across both road and mountain biking. Young riders can participate recreationally or progress into competition, with trained coaches and experienced ride leaders helping juniors build bike-handling skills, fitness and confidence in a supported environment. The club also makes a specific effort to encourage women into cycling, from social riding through to competitive racing. Its current road pointscore provides separate men's and women's competition across four grades, while the broader club program promotes an inclusive pathway for women who are completely new to cycling as well as experienced racers. For riders wanting to try the club before committing, GCC promotes a four-week trial membership covering its disciplines, making it easier for newcomers to experience club rides or racing before taking out a full membership. The club also connects strongly with the wider Northern Rivers cycling community. Its annual Interclub Competition brings together riders from Grafton, Yamba, Northern Rivers and Byron Bay, combining road races and criteriums and creating larger fields and friendly regional competition. Whether you're looking to join a social bunch, explore the Clarence Valley by gravel bike, race road or criteriums, hit the singletrack at Bom Bom, introduce a junior to cycling or simply find some locals to ride with, Grafton Cycle Club offers one of the broadest cycling communities in Northern NSW.
