About this club
Hamilton Wheelers Cycling Club (HWCC) is a long-established cycling club based in Brisbane, Queensland, with a strong focus on road racing, criteriums, time trials and junior rider development. The club caters for riders across a wide range of ages and abilities, from children discovering competitive cycling through to Elite and Masters racers. Rather than operating from a single race venue, Hamilton Wheelers uses a variety of circuits and road courses around Brisbane and South East Queensland. Regular racing takes place at the Albert Bishop Park criterium circuit at Nundah, while the club also uses Lakeside Park for closed-circuit racing and open-road courses including Elimbah, Pine Dam, Somerset Dam and Mt Mee. The variety of venues allows HWCC to offer plenty of different racing formats. Its winter program includes scratch road races, handicaps and time trials, while criterium racing forms a major part of the calendar. Current 2026 results show regular events at Nundah, Elimbah and Lakeside, with racing continuing throughout the year rather than being limited to a short season. Hamilton Wheelers also makes a real effort to help riders try racing for the first time. Most senior racing is graded from A through to E Grade based on ability, rather than simply age or gender. New racers are graded appropriately and the club's getting-started program pairs inexperienced competitors with an experienced rider who can provide guidance and help them settle safely into bunch racing. Junior development is one of the club's standout strengths. Hamilton Wheelers describes its junior program around six priorities: fun, friendships, skills, participation, inclusion and ultimately excellence. Its development pathway combines structured training with racing opportunities and prepares riders for junior tours, State Championships and progression into senior racing. For younger and newer racers, the club's Junior Super League provides a particularly accessible introduction to competition. Designed primarily for U9–U15 riders, events can include criteriums, individual time trials, elimination races, tempo racing and Crit Cross. Riders are grouped according to ability, participation is emphasised over prizes, and eligible newcomers can use an AusCycling four-week trial membership to have a go. That junior pathway is producing riders at a high level. Six Hamilton Wheelers riders were selected in Queensland's team for the 2026 Junior Road National Championships: Summer Sterren, Sarah Taylor, Harrison Dowling, Elliott King, Tilly Taylor and Hannah Walters. Hamilton Wheelers rider Eli Taylor was also selected for AusCycling's Road Development Academy team for the Yunca Junior Tour of Southland in New Zealand. The club's racing culture extends from juniors right through to Masters. One of its long-serving members, Mick Wilkinson, had been involved with Hamilton Wheelers for 67 years when AusCycling celebrated his 90th birthday in 2021. During that time he had held almost every club committee position and continued contributing as a Road and Track Commissaire—an indication of the volunteer culture that keeps the club's racing program running. HWCC also runs larger events attracting riders from beyond the club. The ANZAC Day 25/20 at Lakeside Raceway remained part of the calendar in 2026, while Hamilton Wheelers also organised the 2026 Brisbane Junior Tour at Albert Bishop Park. Whether you're looking to try your first criterium, learn bunch-racing skills, introduce a junior to competitive cycling, tackle road races and time trials or progress towards State and National competition, Hamilton Wheelers Cycling Club offers one of Brisbane's strongest pathways into road racing.
