About this club

Ipswich Cycling Club (ICC) is a long-established and welcoming cycling club based in Ipswich, Queensland, catering for riders from children through to Masters and from complete novices through to experienced competitors. With a history stretching back to 1892, the club combines more than a century of cycling tradition with a diverse modern program encompassing road racing, criteriums, time trials, track cycling and mountain biking, alongside training and social riding. At the heart of the club is Ipswich Cycle Park at Raceview, a purpose-built cycling facility that provides a dedicated, traffic-free environment for training and competition. The park includes multiple sealed circuit configurations, allowing the club to run everything from junior development sessions to fast graded criterium racing. Criterium racing is a major part of club life, with riders graded according to ability so developing racers can build their confidence while experienced competitors enjoy fast, tactical racing. Junior riders can also progress into the senior grades as their skills and experience develop, providing a natural pathway from youth development into open competition. The club's activities extend beyond criteriums. ICC explicitly includes road racing and individual time trials within its program, giving riders opportunities to experience different styles of competitive road cycling. Its members range from recreational riders through to athletes competing at State, National and international levels. Track cycling is also part of the club's identity, with Ipswich riders having a long association with velodrome racing. Historical club photographs show Ipswich track riders competing as far back as the 1930s and 1940s, while track cycling remains one of the disciplines the club currently promotes to its members. Unlike many traditional road clubs, ICC also embraces off-road cycling. The club explicitly lists mountain biking among its activities, while members also participate in cyclocross. Ipswich Cycle Park itself has previously been transformed into a cyclocross venue capable of catering from balance bikes and young juniors through to Elite and Masters competition. Junior development is an important part of the club, with dedicated activities designed to help younger riders develop their confidence, bike-handling skills and understanding of cycling before progressing into faster racing. The club welcomes children as part of the wider club community and provides a pathway from recreational participation into competitive cycling. The club is equally welcoming to adults who are new to cycling or returning after time away from the bike. Ipswich Cycling Club coaches have worked with Ipswich City Council to deliver beginner cycling classes, returning-rider sessions and dedicated women's cycling activities, helping people develop skills and confidence in a supportive environment. There's also plenty for riders who aren't interested in pinning on a race number. ICC members participate in training and social rides, and the club specifically emphasises that cycling isn't all about racing. Recreational membership options allow riders and family members to become part of the community without needing to compete. Ipswich Cycling Club also has an impressive competitive heritage. Its club history identifies Michael Hepburn, World Champion and Olympic medallist, among its champion members, demonstrating the pathway that can exist from regional club cycling through to the highest levels of the sport. Whether you're looking to get a child confidently riding, join a social bunch, try your first criterium, tackle a time trial, experience track or off-road cycling, or progress into serious competition, Ipswich Cycling Club provides a broad and welcoming connection to cycling in South East Queensland.
