Karratha MTB Club

Karratha Mountain Bike Club (KMBC), formerly known as Burrup Mountain Bike Club, is the mountain biking community of Karratha in Western Australia's Pilbara region. Established in 1998, the club brings riders together for mountain bike racing, social riding and trail stewardship in a landscape unlike almost anywhere else in Australia. Mountain biking around Karratha means riding through rugged Pilbara terrain, with rocky hills, spinifex-covered landscapes and an extensive network of singletrack immediately surrounding town. Over the years the club has played an important role in developing and maintaining trails throughout the area, helping transform what began as sections linking existing 4WD tracks into a substantial local riding network. One of the things that really sets Karratha MTB Club apart is its day/night riding format. With the Pilbara's hot climate making traditional daytime riding challenging for much of the year, the club has developed events specifically around local conditions, using afternoon, evening and night riding to help riders make the most of the trails. The club runs an annual calendar of mountain bike races and social events, with opportunities catering for different abilities and experience levels. Cross-country racing has been part of the club since its earliest years, with historic calendars showing everything from traditional XC racing and endurance events to social rides, rogaining-style events and uphill/downhill challenges. Trail stewardship remains a major part of the club's purpose. KMBC is dedicated to maintaining the network of trails in and around Karratha, with volunteers contributing time and local knowledge to help keep riding opportunities available for both club members and the wider community. The club's history is closely tied to the growth of mountain biking in Karratha. What started as a relatively small riding community has developed alongside the local trail network, attracting riders from elsewhere in Western Australia and helping establish Karratha as an unexpected but genuinely distinctive mountain biking destination.
