About this club
Historical / Status Unconfirmed. Katherine Cycling Club was a cycling club based in Katherine in the Northern Territory, providing a local connection to organised cycling in the Katherine and Big Rivers region. The club became affiliated with Cycling Northern Territory in the late 1980s, joining Darwin Cycling Club and Alice Springs Cycling Club as part of the Territory's developing organised cycling community. Katherine's landscape lends itself naturally to road and recreational cycling, with long open roads and a strong outdoor culture. Katherine Cycling Club formed part of the network of regional clubs that gave cyclists outside Darwin and Alice Springs an opportunity to participate in organised cycling and connect with the wider Northern Territory cycling community. A second Katherine-based organisation, Crazy Dogs Cycling Club, later affiliated with Cycling Northern Territory. Historical records indicate Crazy Dogs subsequently disbanded after many of its members were deployed to Timor as part of Australia's peacekeeping operation. While Katherine Cycling Club forms part of the history of organised cycling in the Northern Territory, current information about the club is limited and its present operating status could not be confirmed.
