About this club

Kilkenny Cycling Club (KCC) is a long-established South Australian cycling club based at Hanson Reserve Velodrome in Woodville Gardens, Adelaide. With a strong reputation as a friendly, welcoming and family-oriented club, Kilkenny caters for cyclists of all ages and abilities, from newcomers and recreational riders through to experienced road and track racers. The club has a particularly strong connection with road and track cycling, providing opportunities for riders to train, develop their skills and take part in competitive cycling. Graded racing helps make competition accessible across different levels of experience, while coaching and development provide a pathway for riders wanting to progress further in the sport. Hanson Reserve Velodrome is an important home for the club and for cycling in Adelaide's western suburbs. Kilkenny shares the facility with Port Adelaide Cycling Club, with the two clubs having played an important role in bringing organised cycling back to the velodrome following a lengthy period without racing there. The dedicated track provides a local environment for training, racing and developing track-riding skills. Track cycling has long been part of Kilkenny's identity, and the club also makes use of Adelaide's indoor velodrome facilities for training and competition. Riders can develop their confidence and skills on the track before progressing into broader State and National-level competition. Road cycling is equally important to the club, with Kilkenny catering for competitive riders as well as cyclists who simply enjoy getting out for a ride. Group and social riding provide a more relaxed way to become involved, making the club accessible to riders who aren't interested in racing or who want to build their confidence before taking the next step. Rider development is a central part of Kilkenny's philosophy. The club's stated vision is to develop cyclists of all ages and abilities, helping riders achieve their individual goals while promoting safe cycling practices, inclusion, teamwork and a positive approach to the sport. Coaching is available to help newer riders learn the fundamentals as well as support more experienced cyclists looking to improve their performance. Kilkenny also has a proud competitive heritage, with club riders progressing through South Australian cycling into elite competition. Australian professional Jarrad Drizners, an Australian Under-23 road champion and Grand Tour rider, came through Kilkenny Cycling Club, demonstrating the pathway that can exist from local club cycling through to the international peloton. Despite that competitive pedigree, the club places just as much emphasis on creating a supportive cycling community. Its values centre around encouraging and protecting riders, showing respect, promoting teamwork and, importantly, enjoying cycling. Whether you're looking to try cycling for the first time, join other riders for social kilometres, learn the skills of track cycling, experience road racing or develop towards higher levels of competition, Kilkenny Cycling Club offers a welcoming connection to Adelaide's road and track cycling community.
