About this club

Lake Macquarie BMX Club (LMBMX) is a welcoming and family-oriented BMX racing club based in Argenton, NSW, bringing together riders from across Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, the Hunter and surrounding areas. Catering for everyone from young children taking their first laps through to experienced competitors, the club provides a supportive environment to learn BMX, develop racing skills and become part of the local BMX community. The club has been part of the region's cycling community since 1980, when it was originally established as Cardiff BMX Club. It relocated to nearby Argenton in 1990 and became Lake Macquarie BMX Club, reflecting the broader area and community it had grown to represent. Today the club operates its dedicated BMX racing facility on Mary Street, Argenton, with the facility supported by Lake Macquarie City Council and managed by the club's volunteer committee. BMX racing is at the heart of the club, with regular club competition providing opportunities for riders to experience the excitement of racing in an approachable environment. Riders are grouped according to age and ability, with beginner-friendly options helping newcomers learn how racing works before progressing into more competitive classes. There's a strong pathway for young riders and families. Children can begin with Mini Wheelers on balance bikes before progressing to Sprockets and eventually competitive Challenge classes. Adults can get involved too, making BMX one of those rare sports where children, parents and other family members can all participate within the same club community. For riders wanting to improve, Lake Macquarie BMX Club provides coaching and gate practice, giving members opportunities to work on race starts, track skills, confidence and technique outside competition. New riders don't need to arrive with all the specialist equipment either — the club encourages people to try the sport first and has a limited supply of bikes, helmets and other equipment available to help newcomers get started. The club also provides a pathway beyond local racing. Riders can progress into interclub, State, National and international BMX competition, and Lake Macquarie has both produced riders competing at these levels and demonstrated its capability as a host venue for major BMX racing. Like many successful BMX clubs, LMBMX is powered heavily by its volunteer community. Members and families contribute to everything from race-day operations and the canteen to track preparation, maintenance and working bees. The club itself maintains the BMX track, helping ensure the facility continues to provide a quality venue for training and racing. Importantly for visiting riders, the Lake Macquarie BMX track is not a general public BMX facility. The club states that the track is closed to public riding outside official club activities, although newcomers are welcome to attend appropriate coaching, practice and racing sessions. Whether you're looking to introduce your child to BMX, learn how to use a start gate, improve your race skills, join a friendly local club or progress towards higher levels of BMX competition, Lake Macquarie BMX Club provides a strong and welcoming home for BMX racing in the Hunter and Lake Macquarie region.
