About this club
Leisure Coast Cycle Club (LCCC) is a relaxed and inclusive cycling community based in Wollongong on the NSW South Coast, bringing riders together to explore the spectacular coastline, roads and cycleways of the Illawarra. Rather than focusing on racing or high-performance training, the club is all about social riding, good company and enjoying where the bike can take you. The club takes its name from the Leisure Coast, the stretch of coastline running through Wollongong's beachside suburbs between the Illawarra Escarpment and the Pacific Ocean. It's an area packed with cycling opportunities, from coastal roads and shared paths to challenging escarpment climbs and connections into the wider Illawarra riding network. Social road riding is at the heart of LCCC. The club hosts regular group rides around Wollongong and the surrounding coast, exploring routes north and south of the city and regularly incorporating the all-important post-ride coffee stop. Rides range from easier coastal cruises to longer loops and rides incorporating some of the region's climbing. The emphasis is firmly on riding together rather than chasing speed or Strava segments. Groups maintain a social pace, regroup regularly and are designed for riders who want company on the bike without the pressure that can sometimes come with faster training bunches. Volunteer ride leaders help coordinate routes, pace and regrouping points while each rider remains responsible for their own riding and safety. While road bikes are the most common, the club welcomes riders on gravel, all-road and adventure bikes where appropriate for the route. Some rides are deliberately shorter and more relaxed, providing another option for cyclists who aren't looking for a big training day. You don't need to be a racer to fit in — in fact, LCCC specifically describes itself as being about good people and good rides rather than organised racing or coached training. Some previous riding experience is useful for joining group rides, but riders don't need to be particularly fast or experienced in bunch riding, and newcomers are encouraged to introduce themselves and talk to the ride leader about their confidence and experience. The social side continues after the bikes are parked. Coffee, food and local venues are a big part of the Leisure Coast identity, with the club actively highlighting local cafés and other rider-friendly businesses around Wollongong. It's as much about connecting riders with the places and people along the way as it is about clocking kilometres. LCCC is also deliberately accessible. Joining the community is free, with riders able to connect through the club's online community and find upcoming group rides without committing to a traditional racing-club membership. The club welcomes riders of different genders, ages and experience levels who share an interest in social cycling and exploring the coast. Whether you're new to group riding, looking for a more relaxed bunch, keen to discover some new Wollongong routes or simply think a good ride should finish with good coffee, Leisure Coast Cycle Club offers a laid-back way to connect with other cyclists and enjoy everything the Leisure Coast has to offer.
