Logan City BMX Academy

Logan City BMX Academy (LCBMXA) is a not-for-profit, AusCycling-affiliated BMX club based at Underwood Park in Priestdale, Queensland. Operating since 2001, the volunteer-run Academy takes a slightly different approach to the traditional BMX club, focusing not just on racing but on developing bike skills, confidence, fitness and a lifelong love of riding. The club maintains its fast, flowing BMX track at Underwood Park, providing a home for more than 100 licensed BMX and MTB members as well as thousands of community riders. The facility is also generally available for public riding outside organised club activities, giving the wider Logan community a great place to practise and develop their skills. LCBMXA caters for everyone from beginner and recreational riders through to competitive BMX racers, with riders starting from around four years old. Regular activities include weekly gate practice, BMX coaching, monthly competitions, Come & Try sessions and annual events, with accredited coaches helping riders develop everything from basic bike handling through to race starts and advanced BMX skills. There's a strong emphasis on providing a pathway into the sport without making racing the only goal. Riders can use BMX for fun, fitness, skill development or cross-training, while those who catch the racing bug can progress from club competition through to state, national and international events. The club has introduced thousands of kids to BMX over the years and has helped develop riders who have gone on to compete at high levels. Like so many great cycling facilities, there's a big volunteer effort behind it. The committee and volunteers maintain the track year-round, run activities and help create a welcoming environment for riders and families, with the club's motto of “Unity within Community” fitting pretty nicely with what they're building. RTS TIP: Never tried BMX? This is exactly the sort of place to give it a crack. Logan City BMX Academy runs dedicated Come Try BMX opportunities and even has bike hire available to help newcomers get started. You don't have to want to race either — come along, learn some seriously useful bike-handling skills and see where BMX takes you.
