About this club

Mackay Cycling Club is a welcoming road and track cycling club based in Mackay, Queensland, providing opportunities for juniors and adults to train, race and develop their cycling in a supportive regional club environment. The club has a strong road cycling program incorporating a variety of competitive formats. Riders can experience traditional road racing alongside criteriums and individual time trials, giving members the opportunity to develop everything from bunch-racing tactics and sprinting through to endurance and riding against the clock. The club is also capable of supporting major competition, with Mackay regularly featuring as a venue for significant Queensland road cycling events. Track cycling is another major part of the club's identity, centred around the Walkerston Velodrome. Regular training and racing gives riders the opportunity to experience a wide variety of velodrome disciplines including scratch races, handicaps, sprints, keirins, time trials and pursuits. The club also hosts larger track carnivals, bringing riders from outside the region to Mackay for competition. Importantly, riders don't need to arrive as experienced track cyclists. New riders are actively welcomed, with non-competitive training opportunities providing a way to experience the velodrome before committing to racing. The club also has a collection of track bikes available in a range of sizes, removing one of the biggest barriers for riders wanting to discover the discipline for the first time. Junior cycling is well integrated into the club, with younger riders catered for through dedicated age categories alongside the senior racing program. Training provides opportunities to develop bike handling, track awareness, sprinting, time-trialling and endurance skills, while racing creates a pathway for those wanting to progress into competitive cycling. Adults are equally well catered for, with graded and age-based racing allowing riders of different experience and performance levels to participate. Masters remain an active part of the club community, making Mackay Cycling Club a place where riders can continue enjoying competitive cycling well beyond the traditional Elite categories. The club is also an important part of the broader Mackay cycling community, sitting alongside the region's separate mountain bike and BMX clubs. That distinction is useful for riders: Mackay Cycling Club is the region's dedicated road and track organisation, while Mackay and District Mountain Bike Club and Mackay and District BMX Club cater for their respective off-road disciplines. Like most regional cycling clubs, Mackay Cycling Club is powered by its volunteers, officials, families and supporters. Members assist with everything from timekeeping and results to officiating and race operations, creating the community support needed to keep regular racing and development opportunities available locally. Whether you're looking to introduce a junior to cycling, try a velodrome for the first time, join competitive road racing, tackle a time trial, experience the speed of track racing or simply develop your skills alongside other local cyclists, Mackay Cycling Club provides a welcoming home for road and track cycling in the Mackay region.
