About this club

Manly Warringah BMX Club is a friendly, family-focused BMX racing club based at JJ Melbourne Hills Memorial Reserve in Terrey Hills on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Catering for riders from young children on balance bikes through to experienced adult competitors, the club provides a welcoming environment to learn BMX, develop riding skills and experience the excitement of racing. BMX racing is at the heart of the club, with regular club racing giving riders the opportunity to put their skills into practice in a supportive local environment. For those wanting to progress further, the Terrey Hills track is also capable of hosting major competition, with Manly Warringah having hosted rounds of the NSW/ACT BMX Racing State Series. There is a particularly strong pathway for beginners and developing riders. Coaching caters for different ability levels, allowing riders to build confidence, bike-handling skills and track technique as they progress. Regular gate practice gives riders additional time to work on one of the most important parts of BMX racing — getting out of the start gate quickly and confidently. Young children can get involved through Mini Wheelers, introducing balance-bike riders to the BMX environment in a fun and supportive way before progressing onto pedal bikes. Sprockets and older riders can continue through the BMX pathway into age-group racing, while adults are also encouraged to ride and compete. Getting started doesn't necessarily mean buying a dedicated race bike and equipment straight away. The club encourages newcomers to come along and try BMX, and may have bikes and helmets available to borrow during introductory sessions. This makes it easier for families to experience the sport before investing in specialist equipment. The club's home at JJ Melbourne Hills Memorial Reserve is a significant cycling facility in its own right. Alongside the competition-standard BMX track is a BMX pump track, while the wider reserve also incorporates a criterium circuit used by the separate Manly Warringah Cycling Club. Northern Beaches Council describes the BMX facilities as suitable for riders of different ages and skill levels. Importantly for riders discovering the facility, the BMX facilities are available for public riding during daylight hours outside the periods allocated to Manly Warringah BMX Club, subject to track conditions. Council advises that the BMX track should only be ridden when dry, as riding in wet or damp conditions can significantly damage the surface. The club is also strongly community driven. Volunteers, parents, officials and supporters help deliver racing, coaching, track maintenance and working bees, creating the family atmosphere that is such an important part of grassroots BMX. Whether you're looking to get a young child rolling on a balance bike, try BMX for the first time, improve your skills and gate starts, join local racing or progress towards higher levels of competition, Manly Warringah BMX Club provides a welcoming home for BMX racing on Sydney's Northern Beaches.
