Mansfield Mt Buller Cycling Club (MMBCC) is a welcoming multi-discipline cycling club based in Mansfield and the Mt Buller region of Victoria’s High Country. Surrounded by some of Australia’s best-known road climbs, mountain bike trails, gravel roads and recreational cycling routes, the club brings together everyone from young riders and social cyclists through to experienced racers and high-performance athletes. Proudly describing itself as “the social club with a cycling problem,” MMBCC places just as much emphasis on the people and community around cycling as it does on competition. Members ride road bikes, mountain bikes, gravel bikes and plenty in between, with opportunities to race, train, explore or simply find other people to ride with. Mountain biking is a major part of the club’s identity. Mansfield and nearby Mt Buller provide an extensive playground for off-road riders, and the club uses and contributes to the region’s network of trails while providing opportunities for MTB training and racing. Cross-country is particularly prominent through the club’s local Dirt Crits, while members are also active across enduro and downhill riding. For younger mountain bikers, the club’s Dirt Critters program provides a supportive introduction to off-road riding. Sessions expose children to different styles of MTB including cross-country, enduro-style riding and singletrack, helping young riders develop bike handling, confidence and trail skills while providing a pathway towards racing for those who are interested. Road cycling is equally well established, with club racing, training rides and recreational riding all forming part of MMBCC life. The club’s road racing commonly uses handicap formats, helping riders of different abilities compete together, while informal bunch rides provide another way to enjoy the spectacular roads surrounding Mansfield without needing to race. MMBCC is also the club behind the long-running Mansfield Tour, a significant multi-stage road race that has formed part of Victoria’s road racing scene. The event reflects the club’s ability to combine grassroots regional cycling with higher-level competition and is heavily supported by the club’s volunteer community. The club’s interests extend further into gravel, cyclocross and BMX, reflecting the diversity of cycling found across the region. Rather than defining itself around a single type of bike, MMBCC actively encourages members to explore different disciplines, whether that means racing a mountain bike, tackling High Country gravel, joining a road bunch or simply riding recreationally. Junior and rider development is particularly important to the club. Young riders are encouraged and coached in a supportive environment, while the club has established pathways to help developing cyclists progress towards higher levels of competition. That pathway has helped Mansfield riders compete at State, National and international level across multiple disciplines. The club also contributes to the broader goal of making Mansfield a cycle-friendly community. Members support local riding opportunities and trails, participate in larger recreational events and help connect visiting and local cyclists with the riding culture of Mansfield and Mt Buller.
