About this club
Midland Cycle Club (MCC) is one of Western Australia’s longest-established cycling clubs, bringing together juniors, adults, social riders and competitive cyclists across road and track cycling. Based in Perth’s eastern suburbs, the club combines a remarkable competitive history with a strong focus on developing new riders and creating a friendly cycling community. With roots stretching back to around 1900, Midland has been part of Western Australian cycling for well over a century. Originally formed as the Guildford-Midland Cycle Club, the organisation has evolved through different eras of Australian cycling while maintaining a strong connection with racing, rider development and the cycling community of Perth’s eastern suburbs. Road cycling is a major part of club life, with Midland involved in road races, criteriums and time trials. Racing caters for juniors through to Elite and Masters riders, while structured training provides opportunities for cyclists to improve their fitness, bunch-riding skills, race craft and confidence. The club is equally well known for track cycling, with the SpeedDome at Midvale/Middle Swan serving as its home track. The indoor velodrome provides an outstanding environment for riders to discover track cycling and develop across both sprint and endurance disciplines, including sprint, keirin, pursuit, scratch, points, Madison and time-trial events. One of the real strengths of Midland Cycle Club is its accessibility for riders wanting to try track cycling for the first time. The club has a large fleet of hire track bikes, helping newcomers experience velodrome riding without immediately needing to purchase specialist equipment. Accredited coaches structure training for different skill and experience levels, creating a pathway from beginner sessions through to advanced racing and performance development. Junior development is particularly important to MCC. The club describes developing and encouraging junior riders as a central part of its role and supports coaching across both road and track. Midland juniors have a clear pathway from learning cycling skills and training with the club through to State, National and international competition. Despite its impressive racing pedigree, Midland isn’t exclusively for elite athletes. The club describes its community as a mixture of juniors, men and women who race, train or simply enjoy riding with friends, with its philosophy summed up by four words: Race, Train, Fun, Friendship. Midland also has an extraordinary record of developing riders who have progressed to the highest levels of cycling. Its alumni include Giro d’Italia winner Jai Hindley, Olympian and professional road cyclist Luke Durbridge, Michael Storer, Cameron and Travis Meyer, Sarah Kent and track World Champion Matthew Richardson, alongside generations of other champions and Olympians. Like many successful cycling clubs, MCC is powered by a substantial volunteer community. Members and families contribute to road and criterium racing, officiating, training and social activities, while coaches and experienced riders give their time to help develop the next generation of cyclists. Whether you're looking to introduce a junior to cycling, join structured road training, try your first race, experience an indoor velodrome or develop towards State, National or international competition, Midland Cycle Club provides a welcoming pathway into road and track cycling in Western Australia.
