About this club

Mount Gambier Cycling Club (MGCC) is a historic and welcoming cycling club based in Mount Gambier on South Australia’s Limestone Coast, bringing together junior riders, recreational cyclists and competitive racers across road and track cycling. With a history stretching back to 1885, the club has been part of the local cycling community for generations while continuing to provide opportunities for new riders to discover the sport and experienced cyclists to challenge themselves. Road cycling is a major part of club life, with racing incorporating a variety of formats and courses around Mount Gambier and the surrounding Limestone Coast. Riders can experience traditional road races, criterium-style competition and racing against the clock, developing endurance, bunch skills, tactics and confidence while progressing through the sport. The club is perhaps best known for the Mount Gambier 100 Mile Classic, a long-running road race with more than 80 years of history. The event has become an important part of Australian cycling tradition, attracting Elite, Masters, women and junior riders while showcasing the roads and communities of the Limestone Coast. Track cycling is another important part of the club’s identity, centred around the velodrome at Blue Lake Sports Park. The facility provides a dedicated environment for riders to develop their speed, bike handling and race craft across the different disciplines of track cycling, while continuing Mount Gambier’s long tradition of velodrome competition. The club has a particularly strong commitment to junior cycling and rider development. Younger cyclists are given opportunities to learn, train and compete across both road and track, with coaching and mentoring helping them progress from grassroots participation into higher levels of the sport if they choose. Mount Gambier riders continue to be represented in junior road and track development pathways and competition. There’s also a place for riders who aren’t solely interested in racing. Training and bunch rides form part of the club’s activities, providing opportunities to build fitness, gain experience riding with others and enjoy the social side of cycling around Mount Gambier and the surrounding region. Community is an important part of the club’s philosophy. MGCC describes its purpose as creating a safe, happy and inclusive environment where members are challenged, supported and mentored, while recognising that belonging to a cycling club is about positive relationships and a healthy social lifestyle as much as competition. That combination of history, grassroots participation and competitive development has allowed Mount Gambier Cycling Club to remain an important part of the Limestone Coast sporting community for well over a century. Whether you’re looking to introduce a junior to cycling, join a bunch ride, try road racing, experience track cycling or develop towards higher levels of competition, Mount Gambier Cycling Club provides a welcoming home for road and track cycling in South Australia’s Limestone Coast.
