New England Mountain Bikers

New England Mountain Bikers (NEMTB) is a volunteer-driven mountain bike club based in Armidale on the New England Tablelands of northern NSW. Established around 20 years ago, the club was formed to develop trails and promote mountain biking throughout the Northern Tablelands, including Armidale, Guyra, Uralla and Walcha, and today brings together everyone from young and beginner riders through to experienced racers and masters. NEMTB has played a major role in establishing Armidale as a mountain biking destination. Over the years, club members have helped design and build dedicated MTB trails across locations including Armidale State Forest, Fat Tyre Farm, the University of New England and Kookaburra Crest, creating a diverse mix of riding around the city. The terrain around Armidale offers plenty of variety, from fast and flowing singletrack through to technical all-mountain and downhill riding. Natural and purpose-built features, along with A and B lines on selected trails, provide options for developing riders while still giving experienced mountain bikers plenty to challenge themselves on. The club isn't only about trails. NEMTB runs regular racing and social rides, with members also travelling together to events both within the region and further afield. Its race calendar includes cross-country competition and the club's well-known 12 Hours in the Piney, which has become a staple endurance MTB event on the northern NSW racing calendar. For riders interested in giving racing a go, NEMTB provides a pathway from first-time competitors through to experienced racers. New riders can participate using an eligible AusCycling four-week trial, while riders already belonging to another AusCycling club can add NEMTB as an additional club, making it easier to join the local racing scene. Trail advocacy is another major part of the club's work. NEMTB has a dedicated trail advocacy team that works with local land managers to develop sustainable recreational trails, continuing the volunteer effort that has helped create many of the riding opportunities available around Armidale today.
