About this club

Norwood Cycling Club (NCC) is one of Australia’s most historic cycling clubs, based in Adelaide, South Australia, and providing opportunities for riders across road, criterium and gravel cycling. Established in 1883, the club has been part of South Australian cycling for more than a century, combining an extraordinary racing heritage with a strong focus on welcoming new riders, developing juniors and supporting cyclists at every level. Road racing is at the heart of Norwood Cycling Club. The club delivers an extensive program of racing incorporating criteriums, road races, handicaps, kermesse-style events and multi-stage competition. Riders range from those experiencing racing for the first time through to experienced Masters, Elite and developing high-performance cyclists. Criterium racing is particularly prominent, with much of the club’s racing centred around Pakapakanthi / Victoria Park in Adelaide. Norwood also offers dedicated Come & Try opportunities designed to teach riders the skills required to confidently and safely participate in bunch racing, providing an accessible pathway for cyclists who are interested in making the transition from recreational riding into competition. The club has a strong commitment to junior and women’s cycling, with structured training focused on cycling skills, bunch riding and race craft. Qualified and experienced coaches help developing riders build confidence and ability while providing a pathway into competitive cycling for those who want to progress further. Norwood has also embraced gravel riding and racing as part of its modern identity. The club describes itself as the first South Australian cycling club to offer gravel racing and continues to incorporate gravel events and recreational opportunities alongside its traditional road program. Its gravel activities are designed to appeal both to racers and riders who simply want to experience riding off the bitumen in a friendly club environment. While racing remains the club’s major focus, bunch and social riding also forms part of the Norwood community, providing another way for members to connect and enjoy riding together without competition being the sole objective. The club has an exceptional cycling heritage. Norwood has been represented by generations of Australian and international champions, including riders such as Luke Roberts, Tiffany Cromwell, Jack Bobridge, Patrick Jonker, Michael Turtur and Chris Harper. Its history also includes the former Jubilee Cycling Arena / Norwood Velodrome, where track racing was once an important part of the club and Adelaide cycling scene. Norwood also has a long tradition of delivering significant cycling events. Its major road races have become part of South Australian cycling culture, including the long-running Tour of the Riverland, providing competition and development opportunities for juniors through to experienced riders. Behind that history is a strong community of riders, coaches, officials, families and volunteers who continue to deliver racing and help introduce new cyclists to the sport. Whether you're looking to try your first criterium, develop your bunch-riding skills, introduce a junior to racing, discover gravel, join other riders or work towards higher levels of competition, Norwood Cycling Club provides a welcoming connection to one of Australia’s great cycling traditions.
