About this club

Parramatta Cycling Club (PCC) is a welcoming and long-established cycling club serving Parramatta and Western Sydney, bringing together social riders, juniors, developing cyclists and experienced racers across road and track cycling. With a strong emphasis on inclusion and rider development, the club provides opportunities for people to enjoy cycling recreationally, learn new skills, experience racing or progress towards higher levels of competition. The modern club traces its origins to the early 1960s, beginning as the cycling section of the Parramatta Police Citizens Boys Club before becoming Parramatta City Amateur Cycling Club and later Parramatta Holroyd Amateur Cycling Club. It eventually adopted the Parramatta Cycling Club name, carrying forward a long tradition of cycling within Western Sydney. Road cycling is a major part of club life, with racing incorporating graded scratch races, handicaps, individual time trials and other road-racing formats. Grading helps riders compete alongside cyclists of similar ability, providing an approachable pathway for those discovering racing while still offering challenging competition for experienced riders. Away from racing, PCC has a strong social and training ride community. Regular bunch rides cater for different abilities and include everything from shorter group rides to longer endurance and fondo-style outings. These provide an opportunity for members to develop fitness and bunch-riding experience while enjoying the social side of cycling. Track cycling and rider development are also important parts of the club’s identity. The club has a long association with Merrylands Oval, where riders can train in a controlled environment and develop their cycling skills. Road and track bikes are both part of the club environment, giving riders an opportunity to experience different aspects of competitive cycling. Parramatta has a particularly strong history of junior development. Coaching and mentoring help younger riders build confidence, bike-handling skills and race craft, while access to loan bikes can make those first steps into cycling more accessible. From grassroots participation, riders can progress into club competition and potentially towards State, National and international racing. The strength of that pathway is reflected in the riders who have represented Parramatta over the years. The club has helped develop Olympians, Paralympians, World Champions and professional cyclists, including Brad McGee, Kate Bates, Natalie Bates and Simone Kennedy, alongside numerous State, National and Masters champions. Importantly, you don't have to be an aspiring champion to belong. Parramatta describes its goal as creating a friendly, inclusive and supportive cycling community, welcoming everyone from riders new to the sport through to experienced competitors. Like most grassroots cycling organisations, the club is supported by its community of riders, coaches, officials, families and volunteers, whose contribution makes its training, racing and social activities possible. Whether you're looking to find a local bunch, introduce a junior to cycling, try road racing, experience track cycling, improve your skills or progress towards higher levels of competition, Parramatta Cycling Club provides a welcoming home for cycling in Western Sydney.
