About this club
Port Fairy Cycling Club is a grassroots road cycling club based in the picturesque coastal town of Port Fairy in south-west Victoria, bringing together riders who enjoy road racing, training and social cycling throughout the region. Road cycling is at the heart of the club, with a long tradition of competitive riding on the quiet rural roads surrounding Port Fairy. Club racing has historically incorporated traditional road formats including graded and handicap racing, giving riders of different abilities the opportunity to compete while developing fitness, bunch skills, tactics and race craft. The club is part of the wider cycling community of Victoria's South West, where riders and clubs regularly come together for racing across Port Fairy, Warrnambool and surrounding towns. This regional approach gives members opportunities to experience different courses and compete beyond their immediate local area while remaining part of a smaller community-based club. Port Fairy Cycling Club has also provided a pathway for junior riders, with members progressing into Victorian junior road competition and representing the club at higher levels of the sport. Adults and experienced racers are equally part of the club community, making it a place where different generations of cyclists can share their experience and enthusiasm for riding. Away from competition, social and training riding provides another way to connect with the club. The roads around Port Fairy offer plenty of opportunities for road cycling, from coastal riding to longer routes through the surrounding farming districts and neighbouring communities. The club has a proud connection with the broader history of cycling in Port Fairy. Its members have been involved in significant regional races and endurance challenges, while the club itself has contributed to the delivery of major cycling events visiting south-west Victoria. One particularly significant connection is with legendary Australian endurance cyclist Graham Woodrup, a Port Fairy rider whose extraordinary long-distance achievements became well known within Australian cycling. Woodrup was part of a Port Fairy Cycling Club team that completed 570 kilometres in the inaugural Flèche Opperman 24-hour trial, and his legacy is closely connected with the cycling community of the region. Like many regional cycling clubs, Port Fairy's story is built around the contribution of riders, families, officials and volunteers who have kept grassroots cycling alive and provided opportunities for people to race and ride within their local community. Whether you're looking to experience road racing, develop your bunch-riding skills, find other local cyclists or become part of the cycling community of Victoria's spectacular south-west coast, Port Fairy Cycling Club provides a connection to a proud local cycling tradition.
