About this club
Riverland Cycling Club is a grassroots cycling club bringing together riders from across South Australia's Riverland region, with a strong focus on road racing, criteriums, time trials, social riding and the local cycling community. Founded in 1986, the club began when a group of enthusiastic local cyclists came together for a road race in Berri. Since then, Riverland Cycling Club has developed into an important part of cycling across the region, providing opportunities for riders from communities including Berri, Renmark, Barmera, Loxton, Waikerie and surrounding districts to ride and race together. Road cycling is at the heart of the club, with racing taking place across a variety of courses throughout the Riverland. Rather than operating from one permanent race venue, the club makes use of different roads and circuits across the region, giving riders plenty of variety and showcasing the diverse landscapes of the Murray River country. Club competition incorporates several traditional road-racing formats, including graded scratch racing, handicap racing and individual time trials. These different formats give riders opportunities to test their speed, endurance and race craft while allowing cyclists of varying strengths and experience levels to compete within the same club environment. Criterium racing is another established part of Riverland Cycling Club, with the club using circuits such as Monash for shorter, faster racing. Combined with longer road courses and time trials, this gives members a broad mix of competitive road cycling throughout the year. The club supports riders across different ages and levels of experience, from junior cyclists developing their racing skills through to adults and Masters competitors. Riverland riders regularly progress beyond local competition into State and National events, demonstrating that a regional club can provide a genuine pathway for cyclists wanting to take their racing further. For those less focused on competition, social riding has also been a regular part of the club's activities. Group rides provide another way for local cyclists to connect, build fitness and explore the Riverland by bike without racing needing to be their primary reason for becoming involved. The club's history also reflects a much older tradition of cycling in the Riverland. Communities such as Renmark had established cycling clubs decades before the present organisation was formed, and road and track racing have long been part of the region's sporting history. Like many regional cycling clubs, Riverland is supported by a dedicated community of riders, families, officials and volunteers. Their contribution allows racing to be delivered across multiple locations and helps maintain opportunities for competitive and recreational cycling throughout the region. Whether you're looking to try road racing, tackle a criterium, test yourself against the clock, introduce a junior to competitive cycling, join other local riders or progress towards higher levels of competition, Riverland Cycling Club provides a welcoming connection to cycling across South Australia's Riverland.
