Rockhampton BMX Club

Rockhampton BMX Club is a long-established BMX racing club based at Underwood Park in Rockhampton, Central Queensland, providing a welcoming and family-focused environment for riders of all ages and abilities. Established in 1975, the club has been part of the Rockhampton sporting community for generations and continues to provide a pathway from a child's first experience on a BMX bike through to competitive racing. BMX racing is at the heart of the club, combining speed, bike handling, jumping, cornering and race craft in a fast and exciting format. The Rockhampton track is designed to provide an approachable experience for developing riders while still offering the technical challenge needed for more experienced racers to continue progressing. The club caters for a broad range of riders, beginning with Mini Wheelers and young children discovering BMX, before progressing through Sprockets, age-group racing, Cruiser and adult categories. This makes BMX a sport that families can become involved in together, with children, teenagers and adults all able to participate within the same club community. For riders new to the sport, Rockhampton provides an accessible introduction to BMX racing and track riding. Trial opportunities allow newcomers to experience the club before committing to membership, while coaching and practice sessions help riders build confidence and develop the fundamental skills needed to safely negotiate the track. Coaching and rider development are important parts of the club environment. Riders can work on everything from gate starts and cornering to jumping, race lines and overall bike handling, creating a pathway for those who simply want to become more confident as well as riders with ambitions to progress into higher levels of competition. Rockhampton BMX Club's home at Underwood Park features a dedicated BMX race track, starting facilities, lighting, clubhouse amenities and spectator areas. The permanent facility allows the club to provide training and racing within a dedicated BMX environment and gives the wider Central Queensland BMX community an important regional competition venue. The club also has a strong tradition of hosting regional and higher-level BMX competition, attracting visiting riders to Rockhampton and giving local members opportunities to race against competitors from outside their regular club environment. Its long-running Rocky Rumble has become a recognised part of the regional BMX racing scene. Behind the racing is a strong community of riders, parents, officials and volunteers.
