About this club
Rockhampton Cycling Club (RCC) is a historic and diverse cycling club based in Rockhampton, Central Queensland, bringing together riders across track, road, cyclocross and gravel cycling. With a strong emphasis on coaching, development and community, the club caters for everyone from people experiencing organised cycling for the first time through to experienced racers competing at the highest levels of the sport. The club's home is the Kenrick Tucker Velodrome in North Rockhampton, a purpose-built outdoor cycling track that has become an important part of both the club's identity and Rockhampton's sporting history. The velodrome provides a dedicated environment for track training, skills development and racing, with riders able to progress from introductory sessions through to competitive track cycling. Track cycling is particularly important to Rockhampton's story. Riders can experience a wide range of traditional track events including scratch and handicap racing, pursuits, sprints, keirin and team events. The club also hosts the long-running Rockhampton Cup on Wheels and Capricornia Cup, continuing a tradition of track carnival racing that stretches back generations. For newcomers, structured Come & Try opportunities provide an accessible introduction to velodrome cycling. Riders are introduced to track bikes and the fundamentals of riding safely on a banked velodrome before progressively moving onto different areas of the track as their confidence and skills develop. Access to club track bikes helps remove one of the major barriers to trying the discipline. Road cycling is another important part of the club, with organised racing, training and social riding providing opportunities beyond the velodrome. Riders can develop their fitness, bunch skills and race craft while exploring the roads surrounding Rockhampton and the wider Central Queensland region. Rockhampton Cycling Club also embraces cyclocross and gravel, giving its members opportunities to move beyond traditional road and track cycling and experience racing across mixed surfaces and off-road terrain. This broad discipline mix makes RCC an excellent home for riders who enjoy more than one style of cycling. Coaching and rider development are central to the club environment. Training squads and experienced coaches support riders across different ages and abilities, whether their goal is building confidence, improving fitness, learning race craft or progressing into higher levels of competition. Rockhampton has an extraordinary track-cycling heritage for a regional city. The club and its velodrome have helped develop generations of elite cyclists, including Olympic and World Champion Anna Meares, her sister and international champion Kerrie Meares, and Commonwealth Games champion Kenrick Tucker. That high-performance history sits alongside a grassroots club that continues to welcome juniors, recreational riders, adults and Masters cyclists. Behind the racing is a strong community of riders, coaches, officials, families and volunteers, whose contribution supports events, training, facility maintenance and the wider operation of the club. Whether you're looking to try track cycling, join a social ride, experience road racing, tackle cyclocross or gravel, introduce a junior to the sport or develop towards higher levels of competition, Rockhampton Cycling Club provides one of Central Queensland's most diverse pathways into cycling.
