About this club

South Australian Recreational Cycling Club (SARCC) is a friendly, non-competitive cycling club bringing together people who enjoy recreational riding, exploring new places and cycle touring throughout Adelaide, regional South Australia and beyond. Formed in 2012 through the amalgamation of two long-standing recreational cycling groups — Adelaide Touring Cyclists and the Cycling for Pleasure Group — SARCC continues a cycling community with decades of experience helping people discover the enjoyment of travelling and exploring by bike. The club is first and foremost about riding for enjoyment rather than racing. Its activities cater for a broad range of abilities, from people looking for a relaxed ride along local bike paths through to stronger cyclists wanting longer, hillier or more adventurous days on the bike. Group day rides are a major part of club life, exploring Adelaide's extensive network of shared paths, quieter roads and surrounding countryside. Rides vary in distance, difficulty and terrain, giving members opportunities to discover different parts of the city and regional South Australia while enjoying the companionship and security of riding with a group. SARCC isn't restricted to sealed roads. Club adventures can incorporate unsealed roads, gravel, dirt tracks and mixed-surface routes, particularly when exploring the Adelaide Hills and regional areas. Depending on the route, riders may use road, touring, hybrid, gravel or mountain bikes, making the club a good fit for cyclists who enjoy exploring rather than concentrating on a single cycling discipline. Cycle touring is another important part of SARCC's identity. The club organises recreational tours ranging from shorter trips through to multi-day adventures, with members travelling throughout Australia and overseas. Tours may be supported or self-supported, continuing the cycle-touring tradition that helped shape the club. The club places a strong emphasis on safe and supportive group riding. Ride leaders select routes appropriate to the group, provide information about distance, climbing and surfaces, and adjust rides where necessary to suit the cyclists participating. Newer riders are encouraged and supported, while more experienced cyclists can find rides offering greater distance, climbing and challenge. For people new to SARCC, joining a club ride provides an opportunity to experience the group before becoming a member. The emphasis is on enjoying the journey, meeting other cyclists and building confidence rather than needing to achieve a particular speed or competitive standard. The social side of cycling is equally important. Coffee stops, lunch breaks and time spent exploring are all part of the experience, helping create friendships between people who share an interest in seeing more of South Australia from the saddle. Whether you're looking to find a relaxed social ride, explore Adelaide's bike paths, venture onto quiet country roads and gravel, discover cycle touring or simply meet other people who enjoy riding for the pleasure of it, South Australian Recreational Cycling Club provides a welcoming community for exploring by bike.
