About this club
South Perth Rouleurs (SPR) is a large and welcoming cycling community based in South Perth, Western Australia, bringing together recreational riders, social cyclists and racers through group rides, training, skills development and competition. The Rouleurs community began in 2008, with South Perth Cycle Club established in 2009 to bring together its growing social, recreational and competitive activities. From the beginning, inclusion has been central to the club's philosophy, creating a cycling community where riders don't need to be elite racers — or racers at all — to belong. Group road riding is at the heart of South Perth Rouleurs. Regular rides explore Perth and its surrounds, with different groups catering for varying speeds, fitness levels and experience. This allows newer riders to find an appropriate introduction to bunch riding while stronger cyclists can choose faster and more challenging training groups. Rather than simply providing a route and leaving riders to fend for themselves, SPR places a strong emphasis on bunch-riding skills, etiquette and safety. Experienced riders help newer members understand group communication, positioning and riding techniques, creating a pathway from recreational cycling into more confident and experienced bunch riding. For those interested in competition, the club provides a genuine road-racing pathway. Members participate in road races, criteriums, time trials and other competitive events throughout Western Australia, with the club supporting riders from people experiencing racing for the first time through to experienced competitors. Cyclocross is also part of the club's competitive cycling community, giving members opportunities to experience racing away from sealed roads. This broadens the club beyond a purely traditional road-racing environment while retaining road and bunch riding as the foundation of the SPR community. South Perth Rouleurs has a strong commitment to women's cycling, encouraging women into both group riding and racing. Dedicated training and support help riders develop confidence, skills and fitness while creating opportunities for women to connect with others within the wider club community. Junior riders and families are also welcomed. Junior activities combine enjoyable group riding with practical skills development, helping younger cyclists learn bike handling, safe riding, group-riding techniques and confidence on the bike. The emphasis is on creating a positive introduction to cycling rather than requiring children to become racers. For riders who do want to compete, SPR provides information, encouragement and support to make that first step into racing less intimidating. Masters riders are also strongly represented, allowing members to continue enjoying competitive cycling alongside the club's substantial recreational riding community. The club's social culture is an important part of its identity. Coffee stops, friendships and the sense of being part of a cycling family sit alongside training and competition, making SPR as much about the people you ride with as the speed or distance you ride. Whether you're looking to join your first bunch ride, improve your road-riding skills, find a women's or junior cycling community, try criterium or cyclocross racing, train with faster riders or simply meet more people to ride with, South Perth Rouleurs provides a welcoming connection to Perth's cycling community.
