Southside BMX Club

Southside BMX Club is one of Western Australia's longest-established BMX racing clubs, based at Bob Gordon Reserve in Bull Creek, south of Perth. Operating for more than four decades, the club has grown into a thriving BMX community catering for more than 100 riders, with members ranging from young Mini Wheelers through to adults in their 50s. The club's dedicated BMX track provides a purpose-built environment for riders to learn and develop the skills that make BMX racing so exciting – from gate starts and pumping through to jumping, cornering and race craft. Outside the club's allocated racing and training times, the track is also generally open for public riding, making it a valuable cycling facility for the wider community. There's plenty happening for club members, with Saturday afternoon racing during school terms from February through to November, alongside gate practice and structured coaching throughout the week. Coaching caters for a broad range of abilities including new riders, Sprockets, novice, intermediate and senior racers, allowing riders to continue progressing as their confidence and skills grow. Southside has a particularly strong focus on making BMX accessible to younger riders and families. Mini Wheelers provide an introduction to the sport for little riders on balance bikes, while the club's Girls in BMX program has helped encourage greater female participation. New riders can also take advantage of AusCycling's four-week free trial before committing to ongoing membership. For riders who want to take their racing further, Southside is firmly established within the Western Australian BMX racing scene. The club hosts major competition as well as its regular racing program, including Round 6 of the 2026 AusCycling BMX Racing State Series – Western Australia, which brought Mini Wheelers, Sprockets, Challenge, Cruiser, Junior Superclass, Superclass and Masters riders to Bull Creek. The club's home has also received a significant recent investment. A $1.18 million new changeroom and club building opened in November 2025, adding modern toilets, showers, changerooms, storage, a kiosk and undercover areas to support riders, families, volunteers and major race events. Like all strong community BMX clubs, Southside relies heavily on its coaches, officials, families and volunteers, with plenty of opportunities to contribute both on race day and behind the scenes.
