About this club

St George Cycling Club (St George CC) is one of Australia's most historic cycling clubs, based in Sydney's St George region and providing opportunities for riders across track and road cycling. Established around 1920, the club has more than a century of racing behind it while continuing to welcome juniors, recreational riders and experienced competitors into an active cycling community. The club has two particularly significant riding venues. During the warmer months, activity centres around the Hurstville Oval Velodrome, while winter racing moves to the challenging roads of Oatley Park. St George has raced at Oatley Park since around 1950, and today its events use a fully car-free circuit through the park, creating a fantastic setting for grassroots road racing. Hurstville Oval is a huge part of both the club's identity and Australian cycling history. St George was instrumental in establishing a cycling track at the oval during the 1920s, and the venue later became a training ground for Edgar “Dunc” Gray, who became Australia's first Olympic cycling gold medallist when he won the 1000m Time Trial at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics. Hurstville has since hosted national championships and helped develop generations of Australian cyclists. That history of developing riders is extraordinary. St George counts Olympic champions Kevin Nichols, Graham Brown and Stephen Wooldridge among the many elite cyclists associated with the club, alongside World Champions, Commonwealth Games medallists and Australian champions. Club riders have represented Australia across generations of Olympic and Commonwealth Games competition. But you certainly don't need Olympic ambitions to get involved. St George caters for social, fitness and competitive cyclists, with structured opportunities for children and teenagers alongside adult training and racing. The club has a strong junior development tradition and provides loan bikes for junior members aged 5–12, helping families experience cycling without immediately needing to invest in specialist equipment. There's still plenty of racing happening today. During winter, St George hosts Saturday road racing at Oatley Park, including graded races, handicaps and rounds of Sydney's broader racing series. Summer brings track activity back to Hurstville Oval, with training and racing providing an accessible introduction to velodrome riding. St George's strength is the combination of an incredible competitive legacy with a grassroots cycling club that is still developing the next generation. Whether you're looking to introduce the kids to cycling, experience road or track racing, improve your fitness or chase bigger competitive goals, St George Cycling Club offers a connection to more than a century of Australian cycling history.
