Sunbury BMX Club

Sunbury BMX Club – home of the Sunbury Stars – is a thriving, family-oriented BMX racing club based in Sunbury in Melbourne's north-west. First registered in 1987, the volunteer-run club has grown into one of Victoria's larger BMX communities, welcoming riders from young children taking their first laps through to adults aged 50+ and experienced competitors. The club calls the Sunbury BMX Track at Sunbury Recreation Reserve on Cornish Street home. The AusCycling-accredited facility provides a purpose-built BMX racing environment where riders can develop everything from gate starts and pumping to jumping, cornering and race craft. There's plenty of opportunity to ride, with weekly gate practice, coaching and regular club racing. The club's race meetings – known as “clubbies” – are generally held on the first and third Saturday of the month, giving riders consistent opportunities to put their developing skills into practice in a friendly race environment. Sunbury makes it easy for newcomers to discover BMX too. Come & Try sessions and AusCycling's four-week free trial allow riders to experience the sport before committing to membership, while the club has limited helmets available to borrow for those just getting started. For riders who want to take their racing further, Sunbury is firmly established on the Victorian BMX competition calendar. The club regularly hosts major racing and in June 2026 welcomed more than 500 entries for Round 5 of the AusCycling BMX Racing State Series – Victoria, bringing riders from across the state to Sunbury. The club also has an impressive home base off the track. A major $940,000 pavilion development delivered by Hume City Council and the Victorian Government gave Sunbury BMX a permanent clubhouse featuring a viewing deck, social room, bike repair workshop, changerooms, kitchen, first aid room, office and additional storage. The development was a major step forward for a club that had previously operated from a shipping container. Like all great grassroots BMX clubs, Sunbury is powered by its members, families and volunteers, with plenty of opportunities to help through race meetings, the canteen, working bees, major events or the club committee.
