About this club
Vikings Cycling Club (VCC) is a welcoming and inclusive cycling club based in Canberra, ACT, bringing together recreational riders, developing cyclists and experienced racers through road riding, track cycling, gravel, racing, coaching and social rides. Established in 1996, Vikings originally grew from the cycling community of South Canberra and Tuggeranong but today attracts members from across the ACT and surrounding region. The club has developed a strong reputation for combining competitive cycling with rider development and a supportive community where participation and enthusiasm are valued alongside results. Road cycling is at the heart of the club. Regular social and training rides provide opportunities for cyclists to build fitness, improve their bunch-riding skills and connect with other riders, while a varied racing program allows members to experience criteriums, traditional road races, handicaps and time trials. For people curious about racing, Vikings has a particularly strong novice pathway. Structured development introduces riders to road safety, bunch riding, bike handling, race tactics and the practical skills needed to confidently progress into organised competition. This makes the club a great connection for established recreational cyclists wanting to take their first steps into bunch riding and racing. Criterium racing is a significant part of the Vikings identity, with the club closely associated with the dedicated cycling circuit at Stromlo Forest Park. Graded racing allows newcomers and developing riders to build experience while providing fast and competitive racing for experienced cyclists. Vikings also has a genuine track cycling program, with training and racing centred around the Narrabundah Velodrome. Riders can experience different track disciplines while developing speed, tactics and bike-handling skills, with access to club equipment helping make the discipline more approachable for developing riders. Junior development is one of the club's particular strengths. Young cyclists are supported through structured road and track coaching, with an emphasis on skills, safe riding and individual development. Riders can progress from learning the fundamentals through to club racing and higher levels of competition as their experience and ambitions grow. The club also has a strong commitment to women's cycling and inclusive participation, creating development opportunities for women while supporting riders from a broad range of backgrounds and abilities. Vikings has also welcomed and supported athletes with disabilities as part of its wider cycling community. Beyond traditional road and track cycling, gravel racing forms part of the club's broader competition offering, reflecting the variety of riding available around Canberra and giving members another way to experience cycling away from sealed roads. Whether you're looking to join a social bunch ride, develop your road-riding skills, try your first race, introduce a junior to cycling, experience track racing, discover gravel competition or progress towards higher levels of the sport, Vikings Cycling Club provides a supportive and diverse cycling community in the ACT.
