Whitehorse Cyclists Inc (WCI) is a large recreational cycling club based in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, bringing together riders who enjoy exploring by bike, staying active and sharing the experience with a friendly cycling community. The club's origins date to 1991, when the Box Hill Bicycle Users Group was formed through cooperation between the former Box Hill Council and Bicycle Victoria. From a small group combining cycling advocacy with organised rides, it has developed into a substantial recreational cycling community serving Whitehorse and Melbourne's wider east. Social and recreational riding is at the heart of Whitehorse Cyclists. The club offers an extensive range of organised rides designed to cater for different levels of fitness, experience and ambition. Options range from shorter, easier rides along Melbourne's shared paths through to longer days incorporating roads, trails, hills and more challenging distances. Rather than being centred around racing, rides are about exploration, fitness, friendship and enjoying time on the bike. Coffee and social stops are an important part of the experience, and the club provides plenty of opportunities for members to meet other riders while discovering different parts of Melbourne and beyond. For riders looking for bigger adventures, multi-day cycling trips and touring are another important part of club life. Members can join riding trips throughout regional Victoria, interstate and internationally, combining cycling with travel and the social side of exploring somewhere new. The club also supports women's cycling through Whitehorse Women on Wheels, providing supportive rides where women of different riding experience can build confidence, develop their skills and enjoy riding with others in a welcoming environment. Safety and rider development are important priorities. Club rides are led by experienced volunteer ride leaders, with established group-riding practices designed to help participants ride safely and confidently together. Whitehorse Cyclists is also an active voice for better cycling infrastructure and safer places to ride. Its roots in bicycle advocacy remain part of the organisation today, with the club supporting improvements to cycling routes, trails and connections throughout Whitehorse and wider Melbourne.
