About this club
Whyalla Cycling Club (WCC) is a long-established cycling club based in Whyalla on South Australia's Eyre Peninsula, bringing together riders across track and road cycling with opportunities ranging from social riding and junior development through to competitive racing. At the heart of the club is the Whyalla Velodrome on McBryde Terrace in Whyalla Playford, a full-size outdoor cycling track that provides a dedicated home for training, racing and community cycling activities. The velodrome has hosted generations of local riders as well as regional track carnivals attracting competitors from across South Australia and beyond. Whyalla has a particularly strong tradition in junior rider development, providing young cyclists with opportunities to learn track skills, build confidence and progress into competition. The club caters for a broad range of ages and abilities, with its track events extending from young juniors through to Elite and Masters riders. There's more to WCC than the velodrome too. The club has a history of road racing and regular social riding, giving members different ways to enjoy their cycling depending on whether they're looking for competition, training, fitness or simply a bunch to ride with. The club's current committee has placed a renewed focus on growing participation, particularly among juniors, while creating more opportunities for both social and competitive cyclists. For those with bigger ambitions, Whyalla has demonstrated just how far the club pathway can lead. Leigh Hoffman represents Whyalla Cycling Club and has progressed from South Australian cycling to the highest level of international track racing. Hoffman made his Olympic debut at Paris 2024, winning bronze with Australia in the Men's Team Sprint, before going on to claim Keirin silver, Sprint bronze and Team Sprint bronze at the 2025 UCI Track World Championships. Whyalla also continues to host competitive track cycling, with events such as the Whyalla Track Carnival bringing together Juniors, U19, U23, Elite and Masters riders for racing at the velodrome. Whether you're looking to introduce a young rider to cycling, experience track racing, join a social ride, get involved in road competition or work towards higher-level racing, Whyalla Cycling Club provides a great connection to the cycling community of Whyalla and the Eyre Peninsula.
