Bluewater Trail (Mackay)
About this ride
The Bluewater Trail is Mackay's award-winning shared path, an easy ride along the banks of the Pioneer River that links the city's waterfront attractions. Bicycle Queensland lists a 16 km route. The council describes a ring of up to about 21 km, and some sections are still being finished. Along the way you'll pass Bluewater Quay and the free three-tiered Bluewater Lagoon, the Sandfly Creek environmental boardwalk (good for migratory shorebirds), Iluka and Quota parks and the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens. It's family friendly and accessible, with toilets, drinking water, bike parking and cafes along the way. Ride early or late to avoid the tropical heat.
