Marty Busch Velodrome

The Marty Busch Velodrome is a purpose-built outdoor cycling track at Marty Busch Reserve in Sebastopol, Ballarat. The 250-metre concrete velodrome features steeply banked turns and has been an important part of Ballarat’s track cycling scene for decades. The velodrome is closely connected with the Ballarat Sebastopol Cycling Club, which was formed in 1974 when the former Ballarat and Sebastopol amateur cycling clubs joined forces. The development of a new competition-level velodrome was one of the key factors behind the clubs coming together. Today the track continues to be used for track training, club riding and racing. The club runs seasonal track sessions at Marty Busch Reserve, including junior-friendly pacing, motor-paced training and racing, with club track bikes also available during organised sessions. The velodrome sits within a much larger sporting precinct that also includes Ballarat Sebastopol BMX Club, sporting ovals and other community facilities, making Marty Busch Reserve an important cycling and sporting hub for the Ballarat region. The City of Ballarat's longer-term master plan also identifies future velodrome and pump-track upgrades for the precinct. RTS Tip: At 250m per lap, four laps equals 1km. This is a proper steeply banked track, so if you're new to velodrome riding, one of the club’s organised sessions is a great way to experience it. Check current club activities before heading out, particularly during the summer track-racing season.
