About this ride

McMahons Point is a spectacular out-and-back fire trail in the Blue Mountains, suitable for both mountain and gravel bikes. The best starting point is near the old Queen Victoria Hospital site on Tablelands Road, with the route heading deep into the surrounding bushland towards Lake Burragorang. Expect rolling fire road, long descents and some solid climbing, with panoramic views across Lake Burragorang, the Warragamba Dam catchment and surrounding wilderness. From the lower car park, riders can explore two main lookouts — an easy walk of around 200 metres or a more challenging singletrack option of approximately 800 metres each way. The area also provides views towards the culturally significant Battleship Tops, adding another dimension to this rewarding Blue Mountains adventure. RTS Tip: Save something in the legs for the return — those long descents on the way in become solid climbs on the way back. This is a remote ride with limited facilities, so carry plenty of water, food and spares, download your route before leaving and check current National Parks alerts and fire-trail access.
